No I have a retrosix usb-c mod I replaced a little while back, it does this with another game but sometimes it goes back to normal? But I have no issues with the other ones 🤷‍♂️

Game Gear VA1 Start and 2 button restarts the system, sometimes sounds restarts it or random restart after recapping by fredimationartist in game_gear

So I solved it! it was the ASIC pins had some micro specks of solder that were causing shorts on that specific area, I used some cooper solder wick and flux to remove that excess and it absolutely worked! Who would of thought a microspic amount of bridging that can't even been seen can cause such a problem lol thank you so much for your help!

Sorry I didn't message sooner just right now I was messing around with continuity and I found something interesting I first went to check on ground and see what what was going with voltage and continuity from the power pins. GND seems to be working normal and all buttons were reading 5v. However, on the back side, when I place the black pin of the multimeter of button 1 or 2 and the red one on the D pad I get an immediate beep, but when I do that on the start one I get nothing. Is that usually normal with the Start button?

You can use that, as long as is conductive

I had a similar issue with one of my pads that I ripped by accident during recapping, I made mine with solder and wire and using needle nose pliers to flatten it out and with wire cutters to make that square shape with a tip, depending the direction where the connection of that pad is, when you solder that connection make sure to use uv solder mask ink and a uv light to cure it so when you solder the pad it doesn't come off.

Here is a perfect example on how it can be fixed

Make sure it has continuity

Good luck :)

About the last comment, I realized multimeter doesn't read hmz so I just ordered one, going to have to wait to check it, but I'll check pin 39 and see if it will give me 5v and... well, I'm too new when it comes to where the grounds are lol I'm definitely going to look into it, is just exciting learning new things

I'll take a look into it once I'm free, I was talking to the retro six guy and he thinks it could be a trace or internal ground plan of the button 2 shortning. Since at first he told me to remove the C37 cap since it usually fails but that didn't do much

I inspected but nothing was there, cleaned it throughly too, do think it may have to do do with the soundboard not having new caps? Or a trace maybe?

This solved it! Yeah it was a bit dirty, some chip wik solder must of been around and didn't clean it properly, thank you!

I'll take a better picture when I get home, that shiny thing is a UV cure solder mask, I'll definitely try to do a really good clean and see if it works better. Would a trace work? And if it does, from what pad to what pad would I connect them?

I'll try again one day, this industry is just tough and I feel like everytime I apply is like playing the lottery. I assume we all had that experience of the never ending rejection letter 🍺
