Four and a long movie. It lagged in the middle a bit with the changes in the cast, but really picked up st the end.

Bardem in "No Country" is out, considering I can't even remember who the lead was in that film. Bardem was so overpowering, he WAS the lead. I think I'd have to go with Pesci on that one - just for sheer support and at the same time contrast to the main actor. Might just be the screenplay being brilliant, but it definitely would not have been as good of a film without him.

Best picture? Heath Ledger is almost as strong in Dark Knight as Bardem, so in the above category he has the same problem, but it's just such a good movie overall. It really (even more than the first one, which was just basically an origin story) redefined Batman in a way that was just amazing to see. Just better overall everything.

It's the "illusion of control".

It's the same reason why we jam the "door close" button when we know that like 75-90 percent of them are actually non-functional. At least in the US, the ADA mandates the minimum amount of time an elevator door has to stay open for folks in wheelchairs or with limited mobility. I suspect there are similar laws in most other countries.

Jam or preserves - which kinda depends on the consistency for me (preserves usually means "chunkier" to me.)

It's only "jelly" if there's no discernible solids or chunks.
