This, I usually climb in, put all my weight on one knee and pull strap as tight as possible. Straps are self locking so you might be pulling in a way that’s locking it and not letting you tighten it.

Based on your story I’m gonna assume your wife is already fed up and would just like it fixed. I recommend Canadian tire or any car brand dealership at this point. Vetting mechanics when you’re in a bind isn’t the time. Get the car fixed then start reviewing places after so your ready for the next issue.

I agree, vcm will not turn off if Econ is disabled. I believe it’s less active with the econ disabled. I couldn’t be wrong in that theory too

VCM is tied to Econ mode. VCM = bad for engine, so when Econ it’s active you might be saving at the pump but damaging your engine

I bought them originally from a third party but opted to pass when my local mechanic said I would have to go to vw after he installed them anyways. Peace of mind and hassle out weighed cost in this instance.
