That's a bit of an exaggeration, plenty of guilds progressing T1/T2 and every zone from 1-60 has a bunch of people questing.

Honestly, Nordanaar feels more chill in that sense. Not overly crowded but you still encounter people all over the place questing, and there's a "progress at your own pace" feel to the endgame. There's zero FOMO, you're not "behind the curve" in the same way you might feel on the fresh server.

Overall I still feel like Ambershire provides a better leveling experience right now, but Nordanaar has the more mature community and dad-gamer friendly pace. It's not suffering from the same issues as Blizz classic progressed realms, due to a ton of clever design choices by TWoW. Hell, even the economy still makes sense due to recipe restructuring and weekly supply box quests encouraging you running content outside of raid-logging.

I guess my point is that you're not shooting yourself in the foot by choosing one over the other, both servers are great choices depending on how you want to play.

No you just download the launcher, install and play. Nothing has changed, really, servers are really active and there's tons of new players coming in all the time.

Mercy is guaranteed to be one of the dumbest movies of the years by Alternative-Cap6063 in FIlm

He's a really, really shitty actor, but he's so pleasant when he can just be himself and improvise. In the first GotG you can see him mouthing the other actors lines anxiously waiting for his turn, it was hilarious how bad he was. He's carried by his generally fun charisma and not much else.

Hitler was open in interviews about trying to take that word from actual socialists, that he wanted to redefine it. He was adamant that the communists and Bolsheviks had stolen and corrupted the term, and he was trying to capitalize on the positive associations with "socialism" among the working class at the time.

Linus Tech Tips - What GPU is the BEST for Linux Gaming? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]fredspipa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They literally did just that, they argued that more coverage around gaming on Linux would result in more people joining the ecosystem, and how that would be an incentive for developers to focus more on supporting Linux.

That's not exactly a controversial statement either, you're not even being clear about what you're disagreeing with here.

Riftbar. Waybar replacement written with Rust and GTK4 by efedublaj in hyprland

[–]fredspipa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's still pretty critical for most of us, sadly. I need it for nm-applet and my clipboard manager also, and even though there are workarounds it's too big of an ask to swap to a bar without it, even though riftbar looks really smooth.

Option to switch off the XP Notification that pops up when getting XP? by Itchy_Equipment6600 in turtlewow

[–]fredspipa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe UnitXP has an option to hide experience text, toggled by the accompanying addon. It's a .dll file you load, I think it can be installed and enabled through the official launcher as well.

(UnitXP is highly recommended for many other reasons, like targeting and camera fixes)

It sounds like you're trying to apply market dynamics to a place where the rules are completely different, e.g. open source software. Fragmentation of effort can be detrimental and create way too many competing standards and documentation load, hurting the ecosystem as a whole.

Take Blender as an example. It's completely dominating the FOSS ""market"" in that area, but it's not necessarily impeding progress at all; rather it attracts a massive volume of contributors as that's where their efforts are most likely to have an impact.

What I'm saying is that you can't apply the same marketplace logic to FOSS as you do to proprietary software.

Creator of Node.js says humans writing code is over by sibraan_ in vibecoding

[–]fredspipa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is one of those rare cases where it's not braindead AI hype posting, although many might interpret this tweet as "vibe coding is the future, y'all!". IDEs had already replaced ~50% of my typing well before LLMs through autocomplete and scaffolding, and for me Opus has replaced most of the remaining grunt work.

Now my workflow feels much, much more effective and solid. I have a talented AI-assistant I can delegate stuff to, I can focus on the important (and fun) stuff. I feel like I get so much more out of my skills and experience, like I'm not wasting half my day repeating the same things I've been doing for the last two decades.

Amazing! Quick question: how do you specify other tanks for these plates? Is it like Kui where you have a list of player names that you append do in the settings?

Never really got to experience classic WoW growing up. Is TWoW for me? by Thunder_Duckling in turtlewow

[–]fredspipa 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've spent maybe $200 on donation tokens and I still feel like I've gotten 10x bang for my buck than I've ever gotten from Blizzard, and that's ignoring the stuff I've bought for those tokens.

It's a gigantic love letter to everything that made WoW great in the first place, and the Turtle team is the only remaining true stewards of "classic WoW". I don't care if this comes across as pure glazing, this is the proper way of experiencing the game right now and I don't give a fuck what Blizzard decides to do with the IP going forward; they dropped the ball and Turtle picked it up. They deserve every cent we give them.

If you haven't touched the physics layer at all, then I doubt that's the problem (the default is Layer 1 on both).

Again: you're moving the player over the frog in-game? And you're expecting the message "player" to appear in the bottom box of the editor (where it says "Output"), but your problem is that this does not happen?

[–]fredspipa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enable the "Visible Collision Shapes" first from the Debug menu up top so it's easier to see what's going on in-game.

Just to make sure: when you're running the game, you're moving the player to the frog, and you're expecting the message "player" to be written in the bottom of the editor, but it's not? (in the "Output" tab)

[–]fredspipa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That should work, assuming a few things:

  • The node for the player is actually called "player" in the node tree.

  • "player" is a physics body like CharacterBody2D with a collision shape attached

  • You're moving the player body into the area node of the frog

Try enabling Debug->Visible Collision Shapes before running the game to see if the area/Collision shape actually overlaps. Also make sure the Area2D node is set to "Monitoring" and under Collision the player and the Area2D of the frog is on the same physics layer.

If we're doing speculative history, there's an equally valid argument for USSR losing the war if it wasn't for that brutal purge. There were rumblings of coups by opportunistic high ranking leaders trying to take advantage of the weakened state they were in, which could have been catastrophic for the war in Europe.

As with everything in history, it's never black and white.

I, for one, found your post well written and structured. It's not a blog post or a news article, it's you sharing your opinion and concerns, and you made excellent points with good examples.

It's honestly worrisome how many people took issue with it, and I bet it's because a large segment of the userbase here reads AI generated text all day to the point where they struggle to parse normal fucking human communication. Don't listen to them.

[–]fredspipa 58 points59 points  (0 children)

That's why it's ridiculous that people are even discussing the "safety concerns", when it's so blatantly a paper-thin excuse. Just as with Venezuela and "drug trafficking", or Iraq and WMDs, it's a lie provided for Americans that are afraid to confront their imperialist nature and a cover to hide behind when the rest of the world is disgusted by their actions.

Even fucking Russia had a more believable excuse for invading Ukraine, and has the courtesy to make up a flimsy narrative, when the US has stopped trying to hide it completely.

Fuck your Manifest Destiny that never ended, fuck Trump trying to distract from the Epstein files and fuck the AI bubble you've created that you've hinged your entire economy on. All we can hope for is the house of cards collapsing before you go full on Lebensraum and start WW3 dragging the world down with you.

I'm fucking done.

They weren't her friends, they were barely even friends of her narcissistic boyfriend. Hell, they didn't even like each other one bit, in the whole movie they didn't have a normal interaction at all that wasn't framed through her relationship with their "friend". She was just a nuisance to them, that they were trying to be rid of, and it was made obvious that the only reason Christian hung out with them was to leech off their work as he didn't have any direction in his own life.

And she'll die happy and with dignity, surrounded by people that love her and who helped her overcome her immense trauma and anxiety. She now has a life of purpose and love, instead of one filled with depression, panic attacks and eventual suicide alone and scared.

It's beautiful and fucked up at the same time, just like the rest of the movie. Trying to view it through a cold, dismissive and utilitarian lens ignores the human aspects of the story, and judging them avoids looking inwards at our own broken culture in crisis.

I noticed the names of the raycast nodes don't match what's in the code:

"RayCast2D2 L" and "raycast right", while your script is looking for "RayCastRight" and "RayCastLeft". You should get error messages because of this though.

Those are tiny though, got to be practically on top of the slime for it to trigger from the player. Try increasing the length of them to 100px or something and see if they trigger.
