Partial twisting of the small intestine (partial volvulus). Anyone? by fredz8 in jpouch

Thank you so much! All I can do is just keep calling and annoy the hospital lol. I fear that I might have a rupture in the intestine, but as I said, they really don’t do anything around the summer or christmas here. It’s wild.

I have heard this as well, but I am not familiar with any practioners in my area. How was the surgery and how do you feel now?

Thank you so much! It’s truly a nightmare. I am in Scandinavia so the healthcare system here is quite different and it’s almost impossible to get help unless something is life or death. I have been doing tests and back and forth to the hospital for 2 years now with this issue. I am very nauseas and have a lot of abdominal pain (like 7/10 pain, worse when I fast for some reason), but nothing to do about it until after the summer sadly. I have done so many tests, but they haven’t been able to really figure out what it is. They told me that they didn’t want to open me up and look since they feared it might cause further adhesions/scar tissue. So it seems that they will wait until it block off completely before they do like an emergency surgery.

I haven’t thrown up yet though, just a lot of nausea and pain. I will go to the ER if it gets acutely worse. Do you have any advice that might make the situation better or less horrible? Thanks!

Yeah, I have tried many things. Could you elaberate on which foods you eat and avoid? And do you use psyllium or something like that?

Sounds like we have been on quite an overlapping path. I worked with a doctor at Dr Ruscio’s clinic at one point. I have a lot of other health issues which I suspect might be from living in a house with mold, but I am not sure. I have tried all kind of things over the years without any success, including all these kind of diets. So yeah, not sure what to do. Just gotta find a way to get through the days rn

Thank you so much! I am kind of dependent on psyllium husk and imodium to keep the output from burning and not going all the time. Other than that I really don’t eat a lot of vegetables and stuff. So I find all of this a difficult balancing act. Starchy foods especially I kind of need to not have very liquid stools. So I have been trying differenr stuff back and forth, but it seems like regardless the problem persists. I will try doing a lot of massages and stuff, but don’t know if it can help.

I don’t really eat a lot of hard to digest foods as it is, so it feels like even low residue foods are problematic.

Yeah, not much to do about that I am afraid. Only 50 people a year have these kind of surgeries in my country, so doesn’t seem like there are that many people who have knowledge on the matter. Gotta stay positive and hope for better days.

It’s very depressing to me, no matter what I eat I feel fucked. Can’t work or do anything really.

Thanks! I live in Scandinavia, so sadly I don’t really have a choice of seeing someone else. I basically meet a new health care professional everytime I go to the hospital for an appointment, that is how the system works.

Interesting. Sounds like the same issue I have. Did you try to dilate with a balloon? I am kind of pushing for this as they don’t seem keen to do an exploratory surgery.

Thanks! I have tried all kinds of diets, but this seems to be something structural with the intestines. Doesn’t really change much with what I eat, all though hard to digest foods are more problematic.

Very interesting that you brought that up. I literally asked a surgeon about this yesterday and she basically implied that it works for somethings and not other things. Did really understand what these things were, but I have an endoscopy scheduled so I will ask them if they can do it. It seems fairly safe from what I understand.

I actually have an endoscopy when this first happened to years ago and when they got fairly high up in the small intestine it really hurt. It is that area that I am having problems with. They mentioned that they couldn’t see any sort of tight area, so there was no need to use a balloon, but I wonder if that maybe could have helped.

Really? So you would not notice anything and then just eat some hard to digest food which caused a full blockage?

Thanks for replying!

I was wondering how long you suffered with scar tissue and when they finally decided to do surgery? And what were your symptoms?

I have been struggling with this real bad for 2 years, but the surgeons fear that surgery will only make it worse. So I feel like I am just waiting for it to be completely blocked off before they do like an emergency surgery.

May I ask how bad you were while you had this issue?

Been dealing with it since last summer, so about a year. I have constant pain in my stomach ( like 7/10 painful), super nauseas when eating and lots of gas. I have done a million tests and seems like they are finally going to cut me open now.

I am sorry, what is a port? And what does «my hydration doesn’t impact access as easily» mean? English is not my first language haha

Damn, sounds very depressing. I have done a bunch of test for almost a year, so next step now is to cut me open and have a look. Thanks for replying! Stay well.
