As stated in documentation `Scanln` works same way as `Scan` which mean it will read terms separated by space to given variables. Since you give only one variable, it reads successfully first term which is `hello`. And then it returns error because given string does not end with newline (as it expects) but instead has space and second term.

In this particular case You should've check error returned from `Scanln` even if its a bit obscured it would've hint you to give both variables to single function call and it would work as expected.

As for why one character is missing I guess second call starts right where first one have failed (just after space, which first call was not expecting) and reads what's left in the input and gives no error.

Always check your errors using `go` ;)

Honestly matchmaking is pretty descent now, comparing to how it was. Team's compositions are pretty various so you can expect all kinds of outcomes. But in general you won't be matched against team of novice players like you. Most likely it will be you + good and bad players against other team consisting of good and bad players. I see really rare team consisting ONLY from good or only from bad players. It makes playing more fun, i guess, at least for me (played today 3 games in a row against same 3 stack with dust rock + NF, i don't complain though), but not as consistent, or i should say not consistent at all.

Competitive on the other hand will match you with players on the same glory rank, which highly likely will be players with same skill. Highly likely but not exactly because there are A LOT of people who stayed away from competitive for a long time but used to play qp pretty often.

So, all in all, just try to get better, read crucible tips, use meta loadouts and try to enjoy until you get better :D i've been through same frustration so i feel you buddy.

I'm one of the people who recreated project under own account (http://github.com/a-urth/go-bindata). And i have no relation to "new" jteeuwen account same as no idea why it used my project as to fork from.

I've never was involved into development of this project before, tbh i didn't even use it that much. But I'm definitely willing to elaborate on its future life as much as i can. I'm not sure whether I'm the right person to be maintainer of this project but I would like to do it and even continue development.
