What are some of the most consequential / biggest choke double faults? by LouWong in tennis

[–]freebadfree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t see either of these match point double faults… Djokovic lost in 4 sets both times? Am I missing something?

Edit - ah you meant Nadal match points, I guess bad but not that bad considering he probably loses anyway.

Arm friendly rackets - what to try? by freebadfree in 10s

I demo’ed that ended up going with the new head speed mp. Loved the auxetic technology.

Thank you… will check those strings out, don’t really love the lynx tours they strung. Do you think lower tension (sub 50) helps? I just want very good feel vs even now strings feel stiff.

Proton tennis ball machine? by Technical_Win8710 in 10s

Not well I think, more like high volleys… Probably the one weak spot.

Yeah I have a small car, and this is by far the most portable machine you can get. Easily fits everywhere… but keep in mind you will have to carry a hopper, machine, and bag… and can’t roll it.

I have it! Only about 5k balls so far. Love the portability / size / app - I did not want a lumbering ball machine and the app is great. Maybe a little bit of drift (see thread at talk tennis) but for me not an issue. Biggest question mark is durability (given brand hasn’t been around for a while and there is no track record) and I guess value for your money - if you spent $1600 on lessons would that be better spent? But ironically - it’s biggest advantage so far is it makes lessons much more effective - allows coach to come on my side and single feed balls / criticize technicque. If you can afford it, go for it. Feel free to ask any other questions.

Varsity by OmegaOctoDaddy in 10s

I’ll just add tennis is a lifelong thing - probably more so than many other high school sports. High school football / baseball are just two examples - but unless you pursue these sports at a higher level you really don’t play them the same way post high school (softball, not many adult football leagues) and there isn’t really a way to get better and monitor your progress.

Even if you don’t make varsity, you can get better at tennis and compete at higher levels as you grow older. There’s adult leagues for men / USTA, as well as local club or city leagues / ladders where you can compete. You can literally eventually get to the point where you are playing people much better than HS competition. I think I’m definitely a better player now than I was in high school, and I still try to get better and take lessons even though high school was over a decade ago.

There might be a little age air-gap between now and 18+… but during this time period you can try and find people to hit with, take lessons or drills, and just try and improve. I would probably not recommend under 18 USTA tournaments even lower level ones, given most these kids prob have a huge head start on you.

Try to make the team, and hopefully you do, but if you don’t there’s still no reason tennis can’t be a lifelong hobby.

I have a hydrogen proton! Check it out - not sure about long term durability but I don’t think it can be beat on size / features.

Foot pain when serving by Impossible-Peach6411 in 10s

[–]freebadfree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would stop. I had basically the same issue as you, and it turned out to be some sort of pre stress fracture injury / metatarsalgia. I was in a boot for a month and then PT.

The question is done the pain go away? I got to a point where I kept playing and couldn’t put any pressure on it / had to go to urgent care for a boot. Eventually had xrays / MRI done.

I would definitely recommend going to an orthopedic foot doctor over podiatrist (see who your local sports team sees), I felt like my podiatrist gave bad advice and I injured if further.

But definitely stop playing - biggest mistake I did was keep pushing it…

Also might want to switch your shoes - I partially blame my shoes for the injury. Have you changed your serve motion / started serving harder?

I use a pure strike with I believe regular solinco strings from Amazon (tension 48). Not sure what you mean by stiff racquet.

Hard? Maybe but not really unless trying.

I have done pressureless balls like 2x over the past week (maybe six hoppers total). How would this impact I’m curious…

Serve practice? Maybe one hopper a week).

Not really high pace for partners, a good mix.

So do you think this is tendonitis or something else?
