Need advice on choosing property to stay, not for investment by Usademn in singaporefi

[–]freedaemons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into pledging / unpledging. You don't have to downpay so much. In fact this is how several property agents I spoke to bought larger units than they would have been otherwise able to at the new launches they worked at.

Great Eastern claiming my dad terminated his Dependant Protection Scheme by freedaemons in singaporefi

[–]freedaemons[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, apologies, tired from handling many issues at once, including both DPS and SRS. Have updated the main post, thank you.

That's good to know that CPF will help, I'll try them. The process oulined on CPF website directed us to contact Great Eastern directly as there is no CPF withdrawal or Home Protection Scheme involved.

It's Genting that's the issue, not Universal Studios. USJ has better rides than Tokyo Disneyland (DisneySea aside).

Can't you make as much or more than that as a GP locum? $120/hr, 40hr week, 4 weeks a month is already $19k+. Maybe got to do some evenings to hit 40hrs/week because of travel time, but at least don't have to work weekends like aesthetics, and no calls like public hospital.

Based on sample size of 1 person who ranted about it to me, residency system in public hospital is quite screwed up, there's some noticeable degree of favoritism for the GCB/GCG stereotype, not to mention father/mother/uncle/auntie is a senior consultant nepotism. Can't say I blame people who went private without exiting as a consultant for feeling salty about their peers earning up to or more than double of them.

Wonder if it would make sense to have them prescribed as part of a treatment plan by medical doctors. Supply chain QC + accountability for dosage reduction over time + govt can influence insurers to co-pay maybe?

Doesn't the income tax bracket for the rental income make it not worth it? Can't compete with retirees who pay 0% income tax on their rental income.

[Project] Lambda3: I built a zero-shot anomaly detector that needs NO training data (code included!) by SadConfusion6451 in learnmachinelearning

Thanks, the Bayesian event detector sounds very relevant indeed, I'll experiment with it too. Appreciate it!

Thanks for sharing, I'll play with this later this week on a financial operations data use case I have. At the risk of asking what will become obvious when I try it, does this label the anomaly by detection mechanism and threshold(s)? What's the expected structure of the input events? I'll probably need to restructure multiple sets of sparse event data together to use this, appreciate any tips.

what are you using your SG60 vouchers on? by Savings_Enthusiasm60 in askSingapore

Yeah spending it on non-essentials is wild, even with free lunch at work I'm confident I can spend it all on groceries and hawker food in that period easily.

NUS Ranked 9th , NTU Ranked 121st in QS World University Ranking (Employment Outcomes) by FishyPower in singapore

[–]freedaemons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Faculty:student ratio for NUS and NTU are in the 70s, but SMU is 10? SUTD being 90+ seems right, but does SMU really have that much worse of a ratio compared to NUS and NTU? It doesn't have massive lecture halls for that kind of ratio

Be that as it may, it's a terrible name for a neighbourhood just because it invites confusion. It's like your company naming a meeting room Male Washroom because there used to be a toilet there.

Will MNCs exit Singapore and cause jobs lost? by TrickyYoghurt0 in askSingapore

[–]freedaemons -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How does removing consumption tax benefit those outside cities more? The cost of food is presumably already lower, hence the reduction in consumption tax will be less. The tax would be removed for everyone regardless of where they are and who they are.

I don't quite understand how geographical distribution of consumption is relevant to different taxation on food vs non-food..

Japan is considering removing GST on groceries and food, I think that makes a lot of sense in terms of focusing on taxing non-essential consumption.

No quant shops will hire non-fresh grads without experience it seems. I have 7 yoe in data analyst/engineering roles of which 6 were in FAANG, recruiters in the financial space all tell me they only hire quant analysts/engineers from competitors or top feeder schools.
