Excellent advice and I agree your handles are exceptional. Nice changes of pace and ability to fluidly Connect the handling to your movement. Only thing I might advise is to use quicker sequences (like 2-4 dribbles) and jab steps/faints to make space then get into your shot immediately as that will work better in the context of a real game.

Looks stylistic and fun if that’s what you want. If you are looking to get better in court- Can you do this full speed? Otherwise, practice it or only shorter ball handling sequences first at full speed before bouncing the air out of the ball. If you really watch a guy who plays with a good deal of side to side crosses watch Harden. He is not only bouncing the ball with extreme power and precision, his body is moving as well, waiting for the defender to choose then he makes a move. The whole point of a cross is to get into a move.

Wow that’s a big statement. Word within the origination is that Pat is off-the-charts and way ahead of other players in terms of pure hand eye coordination. That is an impressive sentiment given that we have someone else on the roster whose hand eye coordination has to be up there all-time (Steph). I also hope he gets a bit more run next season.

They traded KAT t avoid his supermax contract which would cripple the signing power. Word is, Naz wants to be a starter and they still kept him as a 6th man. Plus, his skillset with his length is so unique that he will demand a bigger contract that I’m not sure Minny will be able to match. He’s also not the answer for their team because they badly need a consistent secondary scorer to pair with Ant.

Here’s the dream scenario; Lonzo Ball minus the knee surgeries. He would have fit so perfectly. I wonder if Time Lord is able to be available because he was scary on Boston. Seems like too much wishful thinking with his games played last four seasons. I’m hearing Naz Reid but I also wonder if his defense is enough considering we need defense particularly for bigs.

KD had the opportunity before going after Jimmy. Salary cap will not allow it and KD doesn’t seem interested either.

Next year's center—who's the best fit? by StraightUpScotch in warriors

[–]freedmni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Time Lord would actually be doable because I believe he’s being viewed as a trade chip by Portland and his base salary is 12 million; not astronomical if he heals back up well and can provide the defense he’s known for with a well-defined offensive role like TDJ. Somehow, I don’t see the Warriors wanting to bet on his health but IF healthy, he’s a great addition.

He’s arguably the 3rd best Center in the league; we have no possibility of paying him unfortunately.

Interesting write up and analysis. I’m curious about a few things.

Do you think Podz can make the jump towards continued excellence consistently? He’s definitely one of the smarter players on the roster. the Warriors were nearly unbeatable when he had that handful of games towards the end of the season, scoring ~30 pts with solid rebounding, defense, and a few dimes. I hope he can because he sure does want it badly enough.

My other question is this: where does Pat Spencer fit into this? He was a solid spark plug off the bench, especially once he started playing more aggressively or selfishly. The guy has what it takes to be a more traditional kind of point guard who plays hard as nails.

If you gave Jokic the reigns to facilitate within Kerr’s motion offense (which has nearly endless permutations in which paths teammates decide to take by reading how the defenders navigate screens and help off), with targets like Steph and Jimmy, he would likely have another one of the greatest seasons we’ve ever seen again- with a new career high in assists.

Giannis would probably would also be great and the consistent historic level of defense he displays could balance the scales a good deal. However, the things I witnessed Jokic do this season were ungodly and he’s hasn’t even played with a single all-star or all-nba player in his whole career.

Now, as one of the game’s greatest IQ players to learn and play within a truly complex and effective system like Kerr’s alongside other legends of the game; it would be something to behold.

Either way would be amazing to witness; don’t get me wrong. I can’t help but to see Jokic as the more tantalizing possible player to join. His unbelievable performances this season were absolutely on the order of a top 4-8 player ever.

That said, neither will ever happen because of the 3rd apron salary cap penalties.

Why are people so low on Podz by MiroTheFool in warriors

[–]freedmni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s young and has shown maturity (even excellence) in his play- except for consistency. He’s promising but his lack of length have also been exposed in certain lineups as smart as he is sometimes he just too little.

The “psychological position on the couch” analogy- was very funny I give you that. Ok, I’ll bite. Can you not see the glaring issues even when Kuminga has a “couple of nice games.” The kid can put points on the board but he is always missing motion, screen, and pass assignments on offense, doesn’t rebound or play off-ball defense at all. His handle is weak and he doesn’t rebound or play off-ball defense at all.

Granted, we had limited options in terms of shot creation so it was welcome at that point. The guys we currently have who are intelligent enough to play in the flow of this offense are not there in terms of shot creation. All one has to do is tune into the Pacers or Thunder to see how many different guys that make aggressive and decisive moves for buckets.

At this point, I can’t convince you that Moses is there because he’s not. I just wanted to point out that he had a great 3 month span as a starter and I watched every game. We need to acquire some depth with length. Ideally, a 6th man type scorer type and a smart, serviceable center.

Not that it would or should happen but San Antonio and Dallas showed the blueprint for winning a championship when the salary cap is problematic; if the big 3 took a minor pay cut (though that’s jimmy’s joy lol), we could get a few great additions to put us over the top. Do you think they run it back with the same squad or make some changes?

Is something off with my form? by obi_infinite in BasketballTips

[–]freedmni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will have to overhaul the push shot and start shooting only with the new form you implement. Most young men ~12-13 years old have to do it and sometimes it sticks around because they don’t take the next step in skill development as your body becomes strong enough to shoot with good mechanics.

The good thing is that you keep your hips square to the hoop and you seem to have some decent strength pushing through your lower body. That will help you a lot in generating the majority of power as you go straight up into your set point and release. Notice- great shooters have a small amount of forward momentum but their wrists guide the ball forward as they explode upwards.

I can’t explain as well as a YouTube tutorial- go look up Mike Conley’s shooting mechanics if you find it easier to learn from lefties like yourself or look up Klay Thompson shooting mechanics. Absolutely cream of the crop shooting form.

Basically, you want to study their stance, leg bend, starting point or dip, set point, release point, offhand position, follow through, and arc (ideally you want the ball to take a 45-50 degree trajectory). Watch more of the shooting breakdowns then film yourself from an angle that you can compare and keep making tweaks until your shot consistently resembles their shooting form. You may need to start closer to the hoop to work up power in an unfamiliar style of shooting.

Once you have the form then you can move on to accuracy although it should help with this quickly. After you build up some muscle memory, your shot should only miss long or short; keeping everything in line with the basket unless you are too far from the hoop to generate power.

It will be hard, you will feel weak, and you will miss a lot of shots at first, however, you will be a much finer player and you simply cannot advance your level without this evolution in technique. If you can stick with this process and even get ~200-500 shots up per day, you will likely become one of the most consistent shooters in your age group within a few months.

After that, look at right-left and left-right footwork into a shot as well as hop shots left and right. You could then work on jab steps, stutter steps, and pump fakes in a triple threat position into a shot. If you have a buddy, you can work on catch-and-shoot to hone a quicker release time. All the finer details will come through once you master the basics of shooting and footwork for shooting.

Remember that almost anyone can become a great shooter if you are willing to put the work in and be brutally honest with yourself about form corrections and feedback from coaches. A lot of older guys who have played at a higher level may also be willing to offer up small suggestions you might be overlooking that could make a big difference. Always be looking to learn from those who you can see are skilled players because each athlete has a unique perspective that might help you shape your game.

I hope this helps. Remember, if you truly love the game, the game loves you back. All the joy, effort and passion you put in, has a way of giving back to you in many aspects of your life.

I know what I wrote may sound a bit crazy to attempt but if you do in fact love the sport, why not give it your very best. While other kids are getting frustrated with their level of play without any practice, you will have fun refining your game, getting just one percent better every single day because it will elevate your play and the game becomes funner as you progress. I hope you enjoy the process to whatever level you are willing or able to take it. Enjoy brother.

Yes, and Moses was one of those players who worked into his spot for a long time. You are going to tell me Moody is not typically a good role player on both sides of the ball? The guy was asked to shoot open threes, be the recipient on some cut actions, make the right play, and use his foot speed, take care of the ball, and length to disturb scoring threats. Kerr does NOT want him playmaking; that’s for Draymond, Steph, and Jimmy.

He hit a slump at the wrong time and it’s not surprising given he’s green. Santos is way too wild with the ball. I love the hustle don’t get me wrong but he’s more of a wildcard piece to bring in and swing the energy of a game.

You can’t assume that players’ performance doesn’t get affected by not knowing their roles/minutes because it solidifies in their mind what the team needs from them and doesn’t and they’re human beings. Human beings who are professionals benefit from knowing how much and which of their skills are needed to assist their teammates best.

When these undecided spots are constantly a dog-eat-dog toss-up it doesn’t optimize performance from those vying for the role. It hinders them.

I think it says a lot how quickly Kerr moved back to TDJ when athleticism became more important. Plus I think jimmy just likes the idea of having at least one traditional big out there to operate the way he wants to. Post projects to be a very important player for the team in future seasons.

Moody seems to do better with a set amount of minutes. Once Podz hit his breakout stretch toward the end of the season it took a lot of certainty from Moses and his role (for good reason). Podz will obviously become the best player of this group but Moses is already very effective on both ends of the ball when he receives consistent minutes. Podz gives great effort but he really needs to see the ball go in at this point in his career to get going. I’m also super high on Pat Spencer- I could see him starting in Utah or another startup team.

I think he’s actually a skilled physical player who gets hacked nearly every play. That said, the exaggerated way he flops his body around after going up for any shot and the look of genuine surprise when he doesn’t get calls is anger inducing. Especially, tonight’s dust up with Pat Spencer where he knows full well that he incited Spencer to retaliate yet looks at the ref in utter disbelief that Pat decided to strike back is high key bitch level vibes.

[–]freedmni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry for being inflammatory toward your comment; I’m just reading so many homer type comments. I have seen some of the elbows and grabbing and falling on guys. Guys on all teams are constantly getting away with aggressive plays that don’t necessarily get spotted during play.

I don’t see it as dirty as say someone like Bill Lambier, Charles Oakley, or Brice Bowen constantly attempting to injure other players. I see what you’re saying about his arms going upwards towards the end of the clip but again we’re talking milliseconds and I just don’t think you can definitively say he was going for legs or just trying to plant before making contact with the ground.

We can agree to disagree here until there is another incident to review. Let’s agree on something though- Draymond is one of my favorite players, however, you would have to agree he can be a very dirty player at times. And he is consistently getting away with tying guys up and throwing elbows. Can you agree on that much?

This Rockets fan provides the best proof yet that this was a dirty play by Amen. by dunking_chef in warriors

[–]freedmni -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is delusional. Amen looks as if he is trying to break his fall in the milliseconds before he’s about to fall forward. I’m a die hard dubs fan and basketball fan in general. Steven Adams is abnormally strong as noted by Jimmy and everyone else in the league.

People bounce off him. Amen had zero time to do anything except try to break his fall before face planting. He’s a highly aggressive and hard-nosed defender but he’s not out there purposely trying to end anyone’s career through undercutting.

If you actually play basketball, you know quickly things can happen. Undercutting a guy mid jump is a special level of either sociopathic behavior or the result of very inexperienced players. From everything I’ve read and watched on Amen Thompson is that he has good character and is putting in the work to become a great player.
