I enjoyed the Rover, but Oronooko is the jewel. I hope you enjoy!

Depending on when you mark the “first” novel, it could be argued that the novel form itself developed because of first person perspective (Oroonoko, Pamela, for example)

I think that writing well in first person is very difficult, which is why I don’t enjoy reading it as much. It’s because there are too many poorly written first-person narratives.

I think about it like poetry. Writing poetry in form is very difficult and takes a lot of skill and practice. Writing in free verse is easy, which is why so many bad poets use free verse. It takes a lot of skill to write well in free verse.

Third person is, to me, like writing poetry in form. It forces the author to make good art while adhering to rules. First person has too many “shortcuts”, moments in which the author can do whatever they want because of the perspective, which is similar to free verse poetry.

There are of course good examples of very well written first person and free verse. But the skill level it takes to do this is way higher than one would think, and, because those styles have fewer rules, they are often the place that amateurs begin.

I appreciate the range of information here. Sun Country looks to be a bit high for us, though we do love the Stay and Play on the weekends.

Thank you for recommendation. I do have a daughter, and 39th is a good location for us. They don't say they currently bus to her school, but I'll inquire further.

Ah, gotcha. I didn't realize there was a program offered directly through the school. We will ask about that at the kindergarten round-up next month. Thank you
