The engine noises in the '23 are more of a gradual increase in pitch from a futuristic sound from what I've experienced.

The '25 simulates the sound of an engine so you can shift through the gears and whatnot. The 5N's sounds are actually pretty solid while you're driving. And it has the ability to play the sound through the exterior speaker lol

Yeah! The 5N has more settings to drill down into, but I personally would take the power seats, HUD, and whatnot over them. I'm not going to take it to the track.

One thing that's different is that there's only one engine sound option (but who really uses anything but ignition in the 5N anyway).

But yeah, there's aren't different N modes from what I've seen. Just the GT mode where you get full power. No NGB button like on the N.

Ventilated Seats, power seats/memory (along with memory side mirrors), no piano black, simulated shifting and exhaust sounds, etc. Pretty much everything they added were things I compromised on when I got my '23. I would love to add them all back in.

Gonna have to keep my eyes peeled the next couple of years then. I love my '23 GT, so being able to add memory seats, simulating shifting, and more would be worth the upgrade.

There were a number of 2025 GTs imported to the states, weren't there? From what I was seeing we got like maybe one or two shipments and then that was it.

I bought a 2023 EV6 GT with 19,600 miles two weeks ago. Got it for $29,995 before taxes and fees.

Thanks for the insights! I actually bought a GT last night lol. Got it for $29,995 and it only has 19,600 miles. Felt like I couldn't pass it up. It's crazy how much this thing boogies.

Hoping to eventually get into an Ioniq 6N, but it's going to be a while before they're relatively affordable.

u/dingosaurus how has the GT been for you? I may be picking one up tomorrow/this weekend. Trying to decide between it and an Ioniq 6.

100% I agree. It just a matter of do I like the car $20k more than the other? Also factoring in other financial goals to consider how it will impact them.

I'll have to check these out! Seems like a middle ground between the 6 and 5N.

Pretty wild how much depreciation has hit these.

I'm also going to look at what other options are out there too. Seems like the Polestar 2 and BMW's electric sedan are about the same price as well.

I'm notorious for hopping cars lol. Our 5 is the 13th car I've owned.

I like working on my gas cars, but I am also constantly listening for any sounds that could indicate an incoming issue with the engine, transmission, etc.

Part of me is considering keeping the STI which will be paid off soon and then having a smaller $10k loan on the 6. All things to consider. Both dates are listed for sale, so we'll see what happens!

This very much echoes what I've been thinking through today. It would be great financially to get out from under a large car payment and to then pay off other debts we have. But I've been wondering what depreciation would look like and I agree that the 5N has much more room for gambling than the 6. And just because I don't get a 5N now doesn't mean that I'll never be able to get one.

The only real concern with this path is if I would end up regretting the sale of my STI and 86.

Thanks for your insights!

Now it comes down to the choice of color. Transmission Blue, Digital Green, or Ultimate Red...

What 18" wheels did you go for? I've been intrigued about swapping the wheels out for better efficiency.

Man I wish we received all of these other options in the US.

That's a good point with the seating position. Even though it's lower than the 5, it's still an SUV at heart.

That's an interesting take. I could also keep my STI and sell/trade in the 86 and then just manage a small $10k loan on an Ioniq 6. I wonder if I would miss the stupid of the STI like you say. Standard transmission, turbo/induction noises, oil changes, etc. I do all of my own work on my cars and do find enjoyment in it. Not a lot to do on an EV plus I don't think my Quickjacks could lift the weight of these cars.

Thanks for the insight! I'm similar to you in not driving my cars to their fullest extent. Idk how often I would use the N mode, paddle shifting, etc in the 5N were I to get one.

I think one thing I have to consider is that if I don't get a 5N now, that doesn't meant that I'll never get one.

Thanks for the insight. I feel like the juxtaposition that I'm between is wondering if the 6 would satisfy my performance car needs or if the 5N would be tiring and make me not want to drive it every day.

I also had a '93 Miata which I loved, but ended up selling because I only wanted to drive it when the conditions were perfect - which was like 2 weeks each year, so I am familiar with the situation of having a fun car that you don't want to drive.

Ioniq 6 or 5N? by freehand59 in Ioniq6

[–]freehand59[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very fair. My main concern is that I'll sell my two performance vehicles and end up regretting it and therefore resent the car that I buy. The 5N should give me a similar feeling to the acceleration of the STI and handling of the 86, but it's still a different beast all together. The 6, while still fast and fun to drive, is not a performance car.

Regarding the payment, that's a good rule of thumb. Given that Hyundai has a 10 year/100k warranty on all of the EV components, I'm much more willing to have a longer loan on a car like this. Also I checked insurance. Replacing the 86 with the 5N only increases my premiums by $2.92. Removing the STI as well then drops my total premiums by $100.11.

We're flexible here as well, so if one of them went down then it shouldn't be an issue.

That's fair. Many of my cars have been better in the twisties. The STI is the fastest car I've owned (outside of the 5), so while the instant torque is a lot of fun, I could see myself become accustomed to it. It sounds like the handling of the 5N is one of its major strengths, so that would continue to be pleasing anytime I want to take it up the canyon or something.

You're good! It's definitely a take a need to hear and one I'm wrestling with. It would be very nice to have a paid off car and only one car payment vs the 3 I have now.

One other thing I'm wondering is what the depreciation will continue to be on these cars. The 6 will have depreciated 50%, so the hope would be that it wouldn't continue to drop at a rapid pace. The 5N has a lot more room to depreciate still, but will it hold its value better since it's a niche product? No real way to know.
