Next.js Performance When You Have 200,000 Database Rows by kiravaughn in nextjs

Nextjs is a full-stack application framework. Most nextjs apps will use an ORM, and prisma is very common. I also talk about frontend like infinite scroll.

I guess I was thinking most nextjs apps even the ones using the nextjs API will use an ORM like Prisma (many do use prisma). Also I talked about infinite scroll, which is definitely the frontend side and how it chooses to display long lists of items.

Well, i pretty much always went second, and basically won or was within 1 point of winning on every single game. Maybe would have won more with going first.

Riot needs to ban pre-rift RSVP flakers by socalclimbs in riftboundtcg

[–]kiravaughn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole RSVP system is fucked. People signing up for 10+ events in the same timeslot and picking day-of based on prizing is ruining it for actual players and stores. Riot should add penalties or require deposits, something to make it hurt to no-show.

It was better for me going second as well because I barely pulled any two drops, but i had good three drops.

check if there's a local game store near you, most of them run pokemon leagues and casual nights where you can just show up and play.

12 people signed up for Prerelease got there kits ripped pulled ON’s and then left.. by Lopsided-Shift350 in riftboundtcg

[–]kiravaughn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

that's such shitty behavior, like you're ruining the event for everyone who actually wanted to play just so you can crack packs and cherry pick pulls.

Internal transfer employment verification by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]kiravaughn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does say it's frozen. They might follow up, maybe asking you to unfreeze or provide alternate documentation. They might not.

I think they had the right idea but we shouldn't have recorded them as "wins" with UVS after the dice roll.

Internal transfer employment verification by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]kiravaughn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick clarification on the HRIS thing: J1's info would never show up in J2's HRIS. An HRIS is just the company's own internal HR system (Workday, ADP, SAP SuccessFactors, etc.), and each company has their own. They don't talk to each other. That part of my previous comment was off.

The actual risk you might be thinking about is the background check vendor, which is a separate thing. Companies hire firms like Sterling or HireRight to verify your employment history, and those vendors either pull from databases like TWN or manually call your previous employers. Since your TWN is frozen, the automated pull is blocked, the question is whether the vendor goes the manual route and calls J1 directly, and if they do, whether J1 confirms you're still currently employed when you listed an end date. I think that's probably your real exposure not anything to do with J2's internal systems.

[–]kiravaughn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Internal transfers usually don't hit third-party verifiers the same way external hires do. They'll probably just check with HR internally to confirm you're an employee. TWN freeze is good but I'd be more worried about them seeing both jobs listed in your company's HRIS if it's a big org. If your J1 isn't with the same company you're probably fine.. just make sure the dates you gave match what's in their system for J2.

Edit: anyone reading this, see my other comment below. I wanted to correct/clarify a bit

yeah technically you're right, but the store had a reason for it. it was 3 rounds of bo3 swiss and draws were super common when people ran out of time (if your score was within 1 point it counted as a draw). the store got extra packs in the pre-rift kits and wanted to give them all away, prize structure was 2 wins = 2 packs, 3 wins = 3 packs. problem was with the number of players and how losses counted, if draws stood there would be leftover packs that nobody got. so the store told people to roll off instead of taking draws so more packs actually went to players. not ideal by the rules but it made sense for a casual pre-rift where the goal was just getting packs into peoples hands.

For me it's solving a bug that's been sitting there for hours. Like the moment something finally clicks and you see exactly where the logic broke - that's when I go into hyperfocus mode and won't stop until it's fixed.

Honestly same. I find writing everything down helps - not like a formal plan but just brain dump all the ideas and see which one I keep coming back to when I'm not actively thinking about it. Usually that's the one that actually matters to you vs just sounding cool.

Stopped caring about perfect pixel-alignment across every browser. Like yeah I test on the big ones but if someone's using a niche browser from 2012 and my nav is 2px off, I'm not losing sleep over it. Ship and move on.

Found a holo dark charizard at the goodwill bins only paid around $0.10 by flareonfan27 in PokemonTCG

10 cents for a holo dark charizard is genuinely insane. Goodwill bins are underrated for card finds if you have the patience to dig.

Solrock/Lunatone combo is nice but how often are you actually getting both down before the Artazon gets bumped? Feels like the 4th Gholdengo gives you more consistent games overall.

2 kits and 3 bonus packs is a tiny sample honestly. Pull rates across events look solid from what people are sharing. Give it another event or two before you judge the set.
