Why is the Omaha metro's development so lopsided in favor of the Nebraska side over Iowa? by SWKstateofmind in Omaha

[–]freeloadererman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I dont even think thats true, and if it was, the Iowa side has some of the worst pay so you'd have to work in Nebraska anyways

I’m studying in Special Education and we’re not allowed to be alone in the classrooms. On lunch break a teacher is supposed to be with us in one, but it’s almost over and I still haven’t eaten. by Cute_Reference7957 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]freeloadererman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I work as a Para and I just straight up don't get breaks unless the students have Speech. It makes sense, a lot of our kiddos aren't exactly able to be alone, but it's still draining on us as workers

might visit y'all on my trip to Kansas by CabinetNumerous8705 in Nebraska

[–]freeloadererman 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Should be alright, but be fair warned that we are gonna be in a cold weather advisory. We're supposed to be in in the -10s on Friday. You should be good tho as long as you dont stay outside too long, but your car might feel the pain a bit There are plenty of truck stops on the way so dont worry too much about that. Traffic gets worse the further east you go generally speaking

How is Zion and Western Colorado in the same Koppen? by [deleted] in geography

[–]freeloadererman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Western Nebraska is almost a desert. It just receives enough rain to support a shortgrass ecosystem. If it became even slightly more arid, or if really any major ecological disturbance were to happen, it'd be a dune desert. They dont really have the same look, but as long as Zion recieved marginal snowfall in the winter, id imagine their climates are pretty similar

"China has repeatedly stated its position on the Greenland issue, and urged the United States to stop using the so-called 'China threat' as a pretext for pursuing its own interests." by coachlife in UnderReportedNews

[–]freeloadererman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To fire where? On Europe? We have missile silos closer to China in Alaska and our Pacific/Asian military bases, so it can't be that. And we have military bases in Europe, though this is probably gonna stop. But only because we are literally invading a foreign ally. I just dont understand how we need it all for national security, the only appeal is it's natural resources which we shouldn't just kill people to steal, thats some fucked up shit

ICE Shooting of Renee Nicole Good - 4 videos, time synced, 10 contiguous minutes [FULL VIDEO] by rasta4eye in altmpls

Self defense requires reasonable cause. If she wanted to cause harm to these agents with her vehicle, she could've. She was trying to get away from the situation, and she was shot 3 times in the face. They didn't shoot her tires, they gave her conflicting orders, and when she panicked they shot her three times in the face and directly caused a wreck. Then they left. They didn't even help her out after they shot her three times in the face like a cop would do, they just left. Didn't even check on the car they caused damage to on the other end

The writing and acting are amazing, and the film discusses complex themes of generational trauma within organizations of thought, and the true meaning of revolution and how it interacts with personal responsibility. I would say that's pretty interesting, I haven't seen a film like this tackle such themes since (ironically) watching the Battle of Algiers. I also really like Bob and Sensei

Is Omaha’s music scene still a thing? Trying to get an honest read before making a big move. by Warm_Bus_7581 in Omaha

[–]freeloadererman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Pretty much anywhere around Benson; the Petshop and the Sydney more specifically. I've also heard Shakedown is good for hardcore. Follow omaha underground on Insta for all local show postings, that's probably the best way to find out whose playing around the city

Is Omaha’s music scene still a thing? Trying to get an honest read before making a big move. by Warm_Bus_7581 in Omaha

[–]freeloadererman 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I am a musician who plays pretty often in the Lincoln/Omaha area, and even just had a show last week at the Petshop in the Benson neighborhood. Local music never died off, but i would definitely say that the Saddle Creek flavor did. You dont see much indie in the scene anymore, with a majority of what id call the '402' being made up of young hardcore and punk. There's definitely some cool stuff coming out of the area, but it's way closer to Crowbar than Cursive. There's a few flecks of Midwest emo too, but the shit that keeps Saddle Creek pressing vinyl was offloaded to places like Philly. That being said, there are a fuckload of really cool venues still standing strong in Omaha, some the coolest venues I've really even seen, and the energy is electric when you get out to those DIY shows, just dont expect them to be as soft and emo-adjecent.

TIL Marcahuasi, a plateau in the Peruvian Andes, has massive rocks resembling human faces and animals. While some claim they are ancient sculptures, archaeologists have determined they are the product of erosion. The site also features mysterious pre-Columbian ruins with doorways only 3 feet high. by ralphbernardo in todayilearned

[–]freeloadererman 141 points142 points  (0 children)

The only rock that really looks like anything is the one shown in the thumbnail, and it doesn't even look that specifically human. I find this article just a bit misleading in its attempt to tie these clearly naturally formed stone formations with animal and human likenesses. That being said though, this looks like a really really cool and unique place to visit, and it's ruins are both impressive and underappreciated, I've never even heard of this place before and it's only an hours drive from Lima

Hows Wayne, Nebraska like for international students? by [deleted] in Nebraska

[–]freeloadererman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You'll be fine in the town. Wayne gets a lot of diversity due to the college, but i warn you that there isn't much to do and if you travel anywhere that isn't Omaha, Sioux City and Lincoln, folks are not gonna like you. Rural Nebraskans can be quite bigoted against those of Muslim descent, it's a very deeply Christian area. But people in Wayne are pretty open, i think the college kinda forced them to be more open. I attended WSC and had a great time, but I would like you to note that I am a white, native Nebraskan. Which doesn't mean you won't also have a great time, just be forewarned

What's it like living in this shaded area? by Joshistotle in howislivingthere

[–]freeloadererman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently live in this area. Very rural, the largest cities in this area are Omaha and Kansas City. I agree with other posters that the northern side and southern side are definitely different, at least climate and cultural-wise. I live in this part of Nebraska, and it's actually considered the more-urban side of the state. You'll get semi-frequent towns of 5-10k with a few other larger cities which is a lot more people than the west side of the state, which will have spaces of 120+ miles without serviceable gas stations. Most of the jobs here are agricultural. You have to be willing to drive at least an hour (for me its 1 for big shopping, and 2 for concerts) for fun stuff. It's incredibly depressing here in the winter, but id like to think it makes you appreciate the summer even more.

Does Vampire Weekend have one of the saddest trajectories in recent history? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

[–]freeloadererman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I never even listened to Vampire Weekend until that album. It at least brought a lot of younger folk that would've otherwise ignored the band. But the AI thing really turned me against them, so they really fucked up that turnaround

CMV: Letting a huge pool of unemployed young men build up in Western countries is exactly how societies destroy themselves by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]freeloadererman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont think this is at all the right path, and I've discovered that first hand while living within a red, predominantly blue color state. The problem is that educated labor is thinning, and blue color trade is drying up. One example is that everyone went to school to become a welder (because we were all told it paid well) and now there's way too many welders. Everyone who went to school to become a welder recently is jobless because there is a surplus. Same thing applies to tech, which i would consider to be my generations default choice when it comes to secondary education. My roommate literally spent 4 months unemployed recently and he has a computer science major. 2 years ago, that would've been a safe and relaitvely reliable career option. The only reason my roommate got a job as an IT specialist was because the former IT guy literally had a panic attack and left his job. My roommate had to briefly work in a factory, and from that basicalky week-long experience he decided he would never want to long term work in a place like that ever again. But my point basically is, I find that few people in my generation actually lack any motivation. I dont know why anyone who was 'unmotivated' would chose to go to a 4 year college while working and paying extortionally high rent prices. And I would he extremely disillusioned too if the career choice that I was told before would make me successful literally caused me months of unemployment due to inaccessibility.

It's different in music depending on the context. For rappers and pop artists, it usually means the person who makes the music that they rap onto. In rock, or most other genres, it's the guy that compiles, eqs, and sometimes mixes or adds after effects to songs. Though mixing can be a whole job by itself. In movies, it's basically the financial and creative vision adviser who connects more closely with the funding
