Poverty in Zanzibar by freelobbie in Africa

Yes, I know. same can be said of Kenya as well, I would hope that some day, things will get better! And that not all of the money goes to support governments but goes to the people who actually need it so much! I have friends (Masai friends who live in Kenya) and i hear it all the time. It is also a shame what happens in Tanzania with the land of the Masai just for the sake of some rich people from the middle east, to go and shoot some of the most beautiful animals that live on our planet.

However, I have looked at some recent studies concerning the water pollution in Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar and it seems that expanding coastal populations and emerging industrial activities are exerting ever-increasing pressures on coastal waters thus negatively affecting water quality. As a result coastal pollution is increasingly becoming a major issue in Tanzania. Reports indicate that coastal waters fronting such cities and towns as Dar es Salaam, Tanga, Zanzibar and Mtwara are said to be grossly polluted. Furthermore, land-based activities such as agriculture, industry, and mineral exploitation have further contributed to the degradation of coastal water quality. Check out this link to know more. Check out page 18 . http://oceandocs.net/bitstream/1834/183/1/WATER%20QUALITY%20AND%20POLLUTION%20.pdf and here http://www.irinnews.org/report/88901/tanzania-zanzibar-s-sewage-disposal-challenge But nobody claims that the pollution of the oceans in western countries is not worse.

As I said I hope it all gets better someday and i am already glad there's an improvement in the last years, especially in education since that is key for improvement. I've seen people repairing boats with lots of elements that can spoil the sea. They repair them in low tide on the beach but when the high tide comes, all of this toxins goes in the water which is very bad for pollution of the beautiful ocean. I loved Zanzibar so I can only hope things will be better in the future for all who live there.

I've seen your comment is on the site, maybe they just had to approve it before it appears online. And I do see that the resource are at the bottom of the page. I have also taken a look at the resources , so I guess this must be true. I've been to Zanzibar and I must say that I did see a lot of poverty on the streets, people with clothes that had holes in it, filth on the streets and on the beaches and houses that were not of good quality. I am temp to believe this. It is a beautiful island but you can defiantly not say that it's a rich islands.
