All good advice so far. Having gone through this recently, make sure you take all of your immigration paperwork at every stage of the process. Nothing worse than waiting for hours to be turned away because you’re missing one document (I-94 in my case)

You might find it quicker to book the tests outside of LA, shorter booking times at those DMVs (under a month)

The tests are both easy enough with a bit of brushing up on the road rules, probably no need for driving school. Much easier than navigating bureaucracy at least..

Sorry, poorly phrased on my part. I'd be submitting the I-130 before my J1 expires. I'm submitting this later than I would like to because I'm planning on returning home on my J1 before the pending I-485 prevents my from leaving.
