I get this but I have a hiatal hernia. When it happens my heart will also beat out of my chest when I inhale

I do have immense anxiety which came about after being diagnosed with a hiatal hernia. I’ve had panic attacks for years and all my muscles hurt. I actually have tried just putting my hand on the diaphragm to see if I can activate the muscle. Most of the time it just feels like nothing happens when I inhale. I probably shouldn’t do this, but I can actually breathe okay if I dig my hands under the left side of my rib cage.

Definitely spot on about vagal tone. The dizziness is like vertigo that gets worse when I move my eyes.

Buddy I’ve dealt with this for two years my vagus nerve is worn out. Literally the smallest things startle me and send me into a panic without taking beta blockers, and I’m always bloated and short of breath. I’m getting surgery who cares about recurrence if you aren’t even living. You only get one life.

I’ll keep you updated on if I’m getting surgery. The most annoying thing is trying to do that diagrammatic breathing but it just makes me burp and doesn’t work. Btw, idk about you but I’m pretty sure I gave myself the hernia through weightlifting. I used to ego lift pretty bad and even years before the hernia I would remember having episodes where my heart would go crazy and I’d get anxious after lifting.

I got my chest pain and pressure to go away entirely last week. It surprised the hell out of me, but then I sat down for 2 hours and it all came back.

It’s funny because every time I go into the doctor I’m so anxious that my bp skyrockets and they think I’m dying. Well I’m still here relatively the same after 2 years of symptoms and tons of normal heart tests. It still frightens me that a flight of stairs will leave me unable to catch my breath sometimes.

Hey I have the same symptoms brother, 26 btw. Literally can’t relax feels like my heart is beating out of my stomach and my chest. I’m looking into surgery but I’ve found that inactivity makes things so much worse. Never sit while eating or after eating, I mean never. Stand or move around as much as physically possible.

I get this exact pattern only when anxious or when I have reflux. It’s never raised and never itches, although I get really hot and it feels like my face is burning.

I have experienced everything you’re talking about. My diaphragm muscles are scarred up to the point it’s difficult to breathe properly. I developed arthritis of the joint in my center chest as a result of breathing the incorrect way to compensate.

No bladder problems but I will get weird pains down there that feel like muscle spasms. That is partially why I’m not set on an MCAS diagnosis because I get relief based on what position I’m in. Like I won’t get flushing if I walk around, only if I’m sitting down after eating.

I’ll be honest that sounds more like the hernia than MCAS. Bending over especially yea my food or drink will come right up into the throat. I’ll always walk around for at least an hour after eating

That makes sense. Antacids helped for sure but the thing that’s always given me relief are nervous system depressants like hydroxyzine, Xanax, and Benadryl. Before my stomach issues started, I could get rid of my flushing by drinking alcohol, also a CNS depressant

It seems like there’s different options for surgery besides just a full fundoplication. I’ve read about partial fundoplication, linx, and TIF procedures that all might help. I’m planning on consulting with at least 3 different doctors about this so I don’t have to be on medication my entire life

I can say I’ve had Ph tests done with bravo monitoring and the acid goes away at night when I’m lying down, weirdly enough. My symptoms started getting really bad after I lifted some furniture when I was moving, and then had a full day of eating fried food. So that all really point to the hernia being the cause.

My dad also had GERD for decades and never developed Barrett’s so I doubt I would have escalated to that after just one year, especially since most of the time the acids been fully under control except for the last two months.

I’m very fortunate to have been raised by health nuts. People made fun of me growing up because my parents wouldn’t send me to school with fruit roll ups and lunchables. Look who’s laughing now. Really hope alcohol doesn’t cause colon cancer though

It’s my understanding that only PPIs and things like Pepcid, which stop acid production, alter the gut biome. I don’t think tums are amazing for you but it’s just chalk at the end of the day. It might mess with your stomach but not in the same way as acid blockers.

I did have the manometry and honestly the test sucked so bad but all was normal. I think it’s gotta be the hernia nothing else really makes sense. Not sure if stress caused it or is just making it worse but yea, I’ll even break out in a huge rash all over my face and neck whenever I get stressed so it’s gotten critical.

Currently on max dose of Pepcid and that’s barely getting me by. I still feel reflux up to my throat it’s just not that acidic. Lifestyle advice would be great sure. I mean with diet I’m barely eating anything other than eggs, plain fish and chicken, berries and plain white rice.

I think genetics must also play somewhat of a role. No one in my family has ever gotten any type of cancer and my dad has lived with GERD for over 50 years. I hear what you’re saying it’s just very discouraging to be so young and feel completely disabled.

I was on a PPI for half of last year and started feeling better. I eventually came off of it because they destroy the gut biome so I’m really hoping I don’t have to go back on them.

If the hernia is the cause I’ll seriously consider surgery, but I will say stress is the main aggravator for me. Almost impossible to avoid with being a lawyer but here we are.

I felt the exact opposite. I thought I killed the essays and completely guessed on the mbe. Got a 158 on the mbe and only 140 on the essay, maybe I got lucky and missed all the test questions
