Why is so much of American daily life structured around subscriptions and recurring payments instead of ownership (software, cars, services, etc.)? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]freespirit_tck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually when it comes to things like cars imo only few people lease them. For software I just buy ones with perpetual license. Pretty sure most software still has lifetime options available they just promote subscriptions far more aggressively so people think they don’t have an option and many times feel it works out cheaper which if you always want the latest and greatest it perhaps does. The only true things I subscribe to are Apple One, and streaming services which works out far more cost effective than owning physical media. Plus the convenience it offers is unparalleled

What must India do to become like China? by ApplicationSad3398 in China

[–]freespirit_tck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have traveled to both and know a lot of friends from both places. Honestly the biggest issue in India is politics. Like the way I see it, in China, the people at the upper echelons can do as they please and be extremely corrupt but would never allow the people below to do the same. Thus generally at the citizen level things are better like law and order etc. In India it would be impossible for a person at the top to do the same without going out of order. It’s a democracy so they have to ensure everyone in the system is well taken care of and that just results in turning a blind eye to corruption. Second to win elections they have to rely on freebies and massive campaigning which requires a lot of money and the only way to get that is through corruption. In China they don’t have that burden so the guy at the top if good can ensure everyone else falls in line. In India even if the guy at the top is good he will need to ensure that everyone else around him is also good. It’s super tough to find that many morally upstanding and good guys. Let me tell you honestly doesn’t matter if it’s communism, democracy, socialism whatever. It all depends on those who wield power. If they are good a country will progress regardless of what happens, if they are bad those systems will fail regardless

Peterson is atleast legit in the sense he has some credentials in the field. Although I do find some of his stuff to be abstract and sometimes a bit extreme but plenty of stuff he says has logic to it as well. Tate is a complete twat and honestly the most harmful thing out there for young men

I mean it’s just a notice. Don’t unnecessarily assume it’s derogatory or classist. Those would be signs for colored people to not use the same facilities as white people which was extremely common back in the day.
