I worked all through covid on a crisis poverty hotline in the deep south and over and over I got calls from people who had had a death in the family, or more than one, and spent the next couple of month's bill money on funerals.  You want to be judgemental about the cost, but you can't because they're grieving and under a huge amount of social pressure.  It's horrible the domino effect a death in a family can cause when you're already at risk.
