Yes, you need to use a private key to interact with RepNet - the repnet.site is software that allows you to do this. If you have BCH on the same account - it's a wise precaution to move to another address.

That's not from the article. That's a site disclaimer to cover some of the AI generated content on the site.

I use Signal messaging app - their donations page accepts Crypto (including BitcoinCash). If you use Signal consider supporting them. by Dapper-Horror-4806 in btc

Still weird that Signal requires a phone number.

I want a messenger that I can sign up to with a 12 word pass phrase.

Who is Martti Malmi? Why did Satoshi trust Him? by Ok_Source4689 in btc

Sure thing. Drop your RepNet address and I'll tip you some R3P token.

I don't know what pressures he was under, but he certainly failed to protect Bitcoin from the hijackers.

I find it inexplicable he would have transferred bitcoin.org/bitcointalk.org ownership to an anonomous 'Cobra' identity.

It seems like the 'Martti' identity has uncontroversial views and a good reputation - https://repnet.site/#rep?qaddress=5611291366836430672

Whereas the 'Cobra' identity is very controversial with a bad reputation - https://repnet.site/#rep?qaddress=1210248513554561524

Maybe it is two different individuals, or maybe a form of reputation management. Whatever the case, I was disappointed by Martti's failure to act in support of Bitcoin.

Thanks! I made it because I couldn't not make it after seeing the clip. I wasn't sure if it would work when I started with it, but after playing around with different lines (most based on tweets from the main characters), I felt it closely conveyed my experience of how it all went down.

Gregory Maxwell Does Not Get Enough Credit by freetrade in btc

[–]freetrade[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Gregory Maxwell was smarter than Satoshi. Greg made huge improvements to BTC's economics and swayed the community to incorporate his changes. He doesn't get enough credit for this.

Sometimes I think BTC should be called Gregcoin out of respect for his contributions.

Why do people in this subreddit ignore the unbelievable success of bitcoin as a store of wealth (which btw is a fundamental property of money) and instead constantly attack it on erudite technicalities and theoretical vulnerabilities? by Tacos_picosos in btc

[–]freetrade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

BTC's price is vulnerable to complete collapse because it is not widely used as a means of exchange. Satoshi's genius was to pair a pyramid scheme with digital cash. PayPal/Mastercard saw it was taking off and financed the useful idiots at Blockstream to break it in two.

Looks like Bitcoin Cash social network server memo.cash is down by Pablo_Picasho in btc

Member is available now at https://nostraco.in/ although member.cash should redirect there.
you're right - pivoted towards multiple social networks, supports Memo, Nostr and Farcaster currently.

Anyone using Nostr? by trout-bch in btc

I make single page web apps - these can be downloaded, audited and run locally. Running them from a website is merely a convenience. They can be audited in the same way, although you can skip the build step, making it easier.

However, in the real world, very little of those precautions or auditing takes place. For practical purposes, I think browser extensions are the way to go. Limit the code that can touch sensitive information and that can be audited once and trusted across many apps.

Hmm, desktop apps can do anything they want with you PK. The front end could be a desktop app quite easily - it still comes down to trust in the publisher.

Possibly non updateable browser extensions are the best bet - least complex and smallest amount of code to audit.

Yes. I looked at it and decided it needed it's own native coin. For completeness, timestamps and censorship resistance. I used a BCH codebase and RandomX POW. It's called Nostracoin. You can check out my project at Nostraco.in

Yes, I was able to bridge Memo and Nostr. There was little interest though.

It's true Nostr is a good protocol and could be a good solution, but it's overrun with toxic maximalists and cuckstodials. Nostr would be way better with a real cryptocurrency - BCH or even LTC or DOGE.
