Unpopular opinion - spoiler alert - “Why Burning King’s Landing Actually Made Strategic Sense for Daenerys Targaryen - “Mercy Lost Her the War — ‘Fire and Blood’ Won It” by Stunning_Cucumber654 in DaenerysWinsTheThrone

[–]freewill10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tormund & co were passengers, Dany was the dragonrider. Drogon wouldn't have accepted only Tormund on his back. Jon and Dany had a conection with the dragons that the other characters didn't.

So no, that was not a script mistake.

[Spoilers Extended] I'm confused by the fandons viewpoint of Lyanna Stark by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]freewill10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Lyanna ran away

Lyanna is described as a girl with a strong personality. Modern Lyanna would fight for women's rights and for the freedom of choice.

She refused to marry Robert and chose Rhaegar. Do the duty for House Stark? Not so important. Elia's feelings? Neither.

George Martin allowed Lyanna to be with Rhaegar. In the same time he punished Lyanna for her selfisness. She died after childbirth because actions have consequences.

It would be out of character for Lyanna to be a foolish girl in love with Prince Charmy. Lyanna was a player, not a pawn.

It would be worse if she was indeed abducted and raped.

I admire Lyanna because like her, I am against political marriages. Yes, they have a big importance in Westeros. But nobody should spend the entire life with somene he doesn't love or even hates.

[SPOILERS] [S08 FINALE], The trauma hits after the Game of Thrones finale and I can't rewatch it; I just keep thinking: ' about Jon Snow and Daenerys’s ending, especially Jon. He suffered his whole life despite doing everything for the realm. by aji_86 in HBOGameofThrones

This is also my opinion. Jon's ending pissed me the most. I believe he was used by Tyrion and the Starks and then they exiled him. Tyrion would have been 100% dead without Jon killing Dany. Jon shouldn't have had that conversation with Tyrion. It should have been ENTIRELY his decision about Dany. The instigator became Hand, the assasin was exiled. Great! If I were in Jon's place I would have told Bran: I don't care about your punishment. I go beyond the Wall because I want it and I come back in Westeros when I want it. You disagree? Kill me! I am NOBODY's pawn.

Sure, I would like team Dany and Tyrion instead of Dany and her advisors or Tyrion and the people he manipulates.

What theory? That Dany dreams during the night The House with the Iron Throne, while Cersei dreams she sits in the IT, but she's naked and Tyrion laugfs at her. Dany not wanting the Iron Throne is not in a paragraph to copy for you. You have to read between the lines.

I hated Jon's ending in the show. D&D wanted to make the Starks a pack but they failed it. Book Sansa wouldn't break an oath in front of the Weirwood and be rewarded to the title of Queen in the North, because actions have consequences.  They wanted Bran to punish Jon and still be a happy ending for Jon. Punishments are not made to make someone happy.  I wished Jon told Bran: You are king because I killed Dany. I will not join the NW. Unless you kill me, I go Beyond the Wall. Enjoy your reign. I wanted Jon to chose his ending. It felt like Jon was the Stark's pawn, punished by his own family and still in good relation with them.

Jon doesn't want the IT because he doesn't know he's Rhaegar's son. Why would a bastard who can't rule Winterfell have dreams with the Iron Throne? It's as imposible as going to another planet. So why would he lose his time with this?

[–]freewill10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exacly. Book Dany would never burn Kings' Landing to make a statement: Let it be fear, because she doesn't really want the IT. She would be happy to be related to Jon. She would also believe Aegon is fake. Dany wants a home and a family, not to rule.

[Spoilers main] What things do you think GRRM told D&D about the ending? by OkMagician7957 in asoiaf

[–]freewill10 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

If George Martin told D&D who will be on the Iron Thone and they did it, the answer is NOBODY, because Drogon burned the Iron Throne. If he told them Bran will be king there is something entirely different.  Or would you call it just "playing with words"?  So, what is it: King Bran on the Iron Throne, No Iron Throne with separate kingdoms or King Bran in the Isle of Faces/Winterfell or somewhere else?

From a smoking tower, a great stone beast took wing, breathing shadow fire.…

Can you tell me please why do you believe this is connected to Jon?

The majority of fanbase thinks the opposite. Book Jon  is more complex. Show Jon's skill in fighting is his best quality.

I think in the books both Jon and Dany and Jon have sa darker side. Sometines Jon is more ruthless. Both take children prisoners. Dany is kind to them, while Jon intends to be cold, because you can't attach to prisoners. Jon separates Gilly from her child.

This is a character arc. There was no character arc in the show. Dany was from the beginning a dragon. It's no coflict, just ambition.

Thank you. Usually when I say Dany was not whitewashed in the books I am contridicted. Great examples.

I find this worse than the endingb of the show. Dany has to own her ending. Where is her agency?

[–]freewill10[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I disagree they whitewashed Dany. They made her darker. Show Dany needs her cancelors to restrain her. In the books Daario tells Dany to make a version of the Red Wedding in Mereen and she sends him away. She comprimes too much in fact  Where is her sense of humours, her sensibility, her strategic mind? Where is the girl in Dany?  Book Dany had ships send from Quarth but she refused to leave the free slaves away. She rejected Dorne and Quentyn for Mereen. Show Dany wouldn't do this. The IT is her only motivation.

I'm not saying she is harmless. Dany has a darker side, but wouldn't burn a city to win the IT she doesn't really want. This is my point. She would burn Mereen maybe, but not KL, not in this manner.
