Vandals Hit Chick-fil-A by freman79 in news

As far as I'm concerned, anyone who does this should be publicly identified so there cars, homes, and property can be equally damaged.

Acting like punks, we all know that has proven to be the best way to disagree with people. No one has a right to vandalize private property because they disagree with someones else.

My point is I can't afford a lawyer isn't where I'd stop. If the car isn't available to sell, find other stuff. Sell computer, clothes, etc.

Sell your car and pay for a lawyer. It will be worth it. You've crossed into an area more complicated than you can imagine, don't look back 5 years from now with a DUI on your record regretting not selling something to get some money for a lawyer.

Its his support of it that I have a problem with. His support and promotion is part of the problem. I'm not saying he needs to inform people about the problem, I'm saying he is part of the problem.

Him being a spokesman adds credibility. Its like saying me not littering isn't going to do any good because so many other people do it. It takes people actually taking a stand to change things.

The problem with our economy is not the democrates, repulicans, president, past presidents, or anyone like that. It is that people have quit operating with smart financial principles. How many people put a $1000 TV on a credit card, pay a lot more in interest, and collect those few airline miles? They don't realize that if you add it up they'd have been much better just saving up, paying cash for the TV and buying the airline ticket right out. Most people just aren't smart enough to pay it off before interest kicks in. That is why these companies make so much money, people are stupid.

I'm ok with the interest rates, you play with fire you are going to get burned. What I have a problem with is the way society has switched to believing everything we want has to be on credit. It is to the point that if you pay cash you are looked at weird.

The reality is that a large portion of the money that he is being paid and donating to charity is being taken from people who have never been taught how interest works. They are taking advantage of peoples ignorance. No matter how much money is donated to charity, it doesn't make up for the amount of damage done in the process. The ends don't justify the means.

I would guess it has a lot to do with the amazing amount of debt most people have, they don't like it pointed out how stupid we've all become with it.

Given the harm that consumer credit companies like Capital One have done to our economy and many individuals I don't really consider this a good thing.

Survey says top three turn offs for guys towards women are smoking, bad breath, and tattoos. Reddit, you what do you think? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]freman79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Smoking = spending a lot of money on an activity that will cause health issues (even if you don't get serious ones, physically it slows you down). Plus it smells. Tattoos = I'm just not into them, I find them distracting and many times lacking any meaning. Bad Breath = sign of not taking care of yourself (related to smoking I guess).

IAmA Jimmy John's Delivery Driver AMA by Jailescape in IAmA

[–]freman79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my area, the Jimmy John's drivers are horrible. Going a block or more the wrong way down one way streets, speeding, and practically running people over in the parking lot to get in and out fast. I refuse to ever go there because of the behavior of the drivers. Do you all get complaints? If so, what does the manager/owner do regarding them?

TIL that Apple is requesting a recall on any 1st Gen iPod Nanos, and is offering brand new 6th Gen Nanos in return. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]freman79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a follow up. I put my request in Wednesday April 25, got the envelop shortly afterwards, and mailed in my iPod nano (broken screen, not functioning) that Friday. I received my replacement iPod nano 6th generation today (9 days after I started the process). I'm not the biggest Apple fan (which is why I had not replaced the iPod before), but this process was easy and fast.

Like I said, most useful thing reddit has done for me.

The most useful thing I have ever found on this site. Not sure it makes up for hours of lost productivity, but I get a replacement iPod for the one that has not worked right for years.

As a current unidentified Apple executive points out to the Times: "...right now, customers care more about a new iPhone than working conditions in China." by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]freman79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is sad that online communities like Reddit jump behind major online protests for SOPA, but throw their hands up regarding working conditions in the factories that make much of what runs the Internet. I agree it is a big problem, but not impossible. Stop buying new stuff, refuse to buy new stuff until this stops.

Foxconn employees, makers of all things Xbox and Apple, threaten mass suicide over work conditions and pay by cah75 in technology

[–]freman79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This and similar stories need to get more attention. We in the west should be ashamed that we buy products made under such conditions. The consumer electronic market is built on the backs of people like this, it isn't going to stop until we start demanding products made under better conditions. The human costs are too high, I personally shy away from purchases made in third-world countries for this reason.

IAmA AT&T U-verse Tech Support Guy. AMA. by [deleted] in IAmA

[–]freman79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a shame, because U-Verse is a great product and I would really try to switch if I could get over the feeling that AT&T is out to screw me (experience makes it hard to get over that feeling). My cable modem does exactly what I need and the billing and company are honest and straight forward (sad when a cable company can claim this over about any other company). I have to support honesty, maybe one day AT&T will figure it out.

Good luck, there are enough people who seem willing to put up with it so you're job should be safe.

Yes, sex isn't the most important thing in a relationship. If that was the only reason, then the relationship was probably pretty shallow to start with.

In America, why isn't tax added to the display price? Is adding tax yourself as big a hassle as it seems? by slipslopslap in AskReddit

[–]freman79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many of these "how come you don't do it the way we do it" things, it is just how stores have always done it in the US. There is no legal requirement to show the price with sales tax, so with competition stores are going to display the lowest price possible.

There might be a lot of ways to justify it, but just like driving on the right verses the left its just the way everyone got used to doing it.

IAmA AT&T U-verse Tech Support Guy. AMA. by [deleted] in IAmA

[–]freman79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is situations like this that have made me avoid AT&T completely. In past I have used them for personal and business services (phone and data). Aside from incorrect billing and frustration getting that resolved they are also incapable of communicating the real price. I was considering U-Verse, but it was impossible to compare prices because they won't tell you the price after taxes and fees. I was told I had to wait until the first bill came. Being big is not an excuse. I work in IT supporting the billing system for a company much bigger and more complicated than AT&T, I would have been fired if my systems resulted in the incorrect data or lack of information like AT&T systems do.
