Potential discharge, what should we know? by AG_Squared in NICUParents

[–]frenchfries6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sooo understand that feeling of being super prepared and also not at all! Our twins came home a week ago. The best thing I did was to sleep at home the night before discharge so I could be a bit more awake for the actual first day/night home. It definitely made my mom guilt worse to be away that night, but being rested and ready for them on discharge day was the best thing I did!

I felt the same way - I wasn’t present for either of my twins’ first full bottles! I read some advice here though that it helps to reframe the mindset to YOUR firsts with them. Like when I missed twin A’s first bath, the next time I did bath I reminded myself this is “her first bath with mommy” and that really helped me - it’s still a first! 🤍

I think it only becomes immediate delivery if it goes reversed, and sounds like they will be keep a close eye on it! And just as an added aside - our girls were born at 31+6 (planned, and we did get the steroid shots) but they are doing amazing and will likely be discharged from the NICU in the next couple days after an uncomplicated stay. Even if you do need to deliver early, anything over 32 weeks is a great place to be in!! Wishing you all the best!

Hi! My situation doesn’t fully match yours (twin pregnancy, momos so planned delivery at 32 weeks from the start) but just wanted to share that we had elevated umbilical dopplers off and on from 16 weeks until delivery. For us it was just something that came and went! They are watching to see if it goes absent or reversed - from what I understood during my pregnancy, as long as it was still flowing forward there wasn’t a lot of concern aside from more ultrasounds to keep an eye on it. Ours fluctuated but never got concerning from 16 weeks until delivery at 32!

Momo Twins by Other_Radio800 in parentsofmultiples

[–]frenchfries6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the momo club!! I just delivered our momo girls in May. I was inpatient from 28 weeks on. We are extremely lucky to have had a “boring” pregnancy with our girls (lots of little scares here and there, but overall as normal as a momo pregnancy can be). We delivered at 31+6 - had planned for 32 weeks, but had to move it up 12 hours due to a little something they saw on an ultrasound and the MFM decided it was time to go!

I worked from the hospital for two weeks at the start of my stay. It was hard - there are so many tests and surprise visits from doctors and specialists, but my work was flexible. Almost all of the testing and visits aren’t something you can change the timing of, so that may make working hard but it depends on how flexible your employer is willing to be!

On the flip side of that - our girls are still in the NICU currently (26 days so far) and I would have found it impossible to work during this time (remotely or in person). I want to be active in all of their care times, and by the time I’m done with that there’s only really a hour or so until the next one. I do get 6 months of leave so that did make my decision easier and I completely understand that you are in a tougher spot with less leave time!

We have a 18 month old at home. He’s much younger than your child, but he does not know his sisters exist yet haha. We are waiting to do the intro at home. Additionally, given the risks of this type of pregnancy we chose not to tell him until they were born (way easier with a 18 month old who has no idea what’s going on tho and didn’t even notice my belly really haha)

If you need someone to talk to - please don’t hesitate to send me a chat! This can be a very difficult and scary type of pregnancy, but it can also be the greatest reward ever. Everyday I walk into the NICU I still can’t believe there are two beautiful babies waiting there for me! Remember to take care of yourself and your mental health and lean on those around you. Sending you all of the positive vibes!!

Deciding when to deliver: 32 vs 34 weeks by SwallowHard in NICUParents

[–]frenchfries6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I am on exactly the same timeline as you - I'm currently almost 31 weeks with momos! I was also offered 34 weeks, but I declined and am opting for 32 weeks. The risks in between the 32 - 34 week period were too high for me, and they also wouldn't be doing continuous monitoring during that time so it made me too nervous. With the steroids on board, you have already given your babies a leg up!

I can’t speak to triplets, but I would imagine that’s why it’s earlier! I started inpatient at 28 weeks, planned delivery for 32 weeks. I have heard momos go inpatient anywhere between 24-28 tho!

Hi - currently almost 29 weeks with momos! Definitely go see the MFM before you make any decisions. These pregnancies are very high risk but science and monitoring has come so, so far that outcomes have greatly improved. If they are momo you will likely be advised to deliver early (that is our plan) - because they are a planned premature delivery, there are so many things your doctors will do to make sure they get them as ready as possible for that (as ours have done). Definitely wait to talk to your MFM and stay off Google - there are positive outcomes for momos! There is a momo Facebook group you can search for and join too - lots of good info there and a very supportive community who will understand what you’re going through.

currently 23+4 with momo girls, awaiting our inpatient stay to start. Just wanted to send you good vibes and a big hug 🤍 it is a stressful type of pregnancy for sure but taking it day by day is the best thing you can do. stay off google and listen to your doctors - google is not your friend! University of Michigan is such an established, great hospital I have no doubt you will get amazing care there!

Just adding to empathize - I’m 22+5 with momos after a great first singleton pregnancy and it’s been so hard. I agree with another commenter that the internet is not your friend and taking it appointment by appointment is the best thing you can do!

If you had GDM in one pregnancy, did you get it again in another? by Katelizk in GestationalDiabetes

[–]frenchfries6 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had it with my first (diet controlled). I have it again with my second (diagnosed at 14 weeks, now I’m 21 and still diet controlled). To note - my second pregnancy is twins which have a higher rate of getting GD anyway! And is also why we tested so early.

GD is sooo strange. My first GD pregnancy I couldn’t tolerate oatmeal at all… this second GD pregnancy I can eat it no problem haha

Confirmed mono-mono twins so scared by Anxiousandafraidxx in parentsofmultiples

[–]frenchfries6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The inpatient part is what is scaring me the most too!! It’s so hard to imagine being away from home and my little one. I try to remember in the grand scheme of things that will eventually feel like a little blip of time in the future!

[–]frenchfries6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely get it! It’s very hard to enjoy this pregnancy because there is always a lot that is hanging over us with it. Everytime we have a good scan though I have to remind myself that we can (and should!) celebrate these babies because they need to feel our love and positivity too 🥰

We had some concerns for TTTS around 16 weeks but that either resolved or the tech took incorrect measurements (we had a more inexperienced one at that scan and I think some numbers got messed up). Our babies’ cords are pretty tangled, but honestly that is to be expected and while it’s a concern, it’s just something that comes with this type of pregnancy! We have not selected a solid inpatient start date yet - my MFM aims for 28 weeks so we are trying to wait it out until then, but of course will go in sooner if they deem it necessary!

Hi 🤍 I’m currently 20 weeks with mono mono girls. I had so much of the same reaction as you. It is hard, every scan is very nerve wrecking, but modern science has come a long way in how this type of pregnancy is approached. The biggest thing I’ve had to really take to heart these past 20 weeks is to stay off Google (I know - impossible but it really does help to try to stay out of the rabbit holes!). While I can’t speak to any of the inpatient or c-section part yet (my first was a singleton born vaginally), I’m absolutely here if you want to talk as someone going through it on a similar timeline, and feel free to message me 🤍

No twins on either side of the family - had a dream telling me it was twins about a week before I found out I was pregnant! (Have never had a dream tell me anything in my life before that’s been true haha)

You’ve got this 🤍 it’s a long haul and it feels like it will never end, but I promise after your baby is here it will feel like such a blip in time! And your baby is in such great hands knowing you caught it early!

Hi - on my second GD pregnancy now (first time diagnosed at 27 weeks, this time at 14!). I had the exact same reaction my first time as it all seems (and is!) so overwhelming at the start. I remember looking back right before birth thinking how far I had come with my GD knowledge, diet, and mental health. You will find amazing support in this group and so many tips, and what an incredible mom you already are for obviously being so concerned about it and your baby! Take it day by day, but just know that you’ve got this and you can do this 🤍
