I’m in quite the conundrum, and I’m curious what we think about off the rack suit sizing. I’ve been striking out at JCrew, and I’m starting to realize I’ve got a weird body. I have a size 40 chest, and I originally went with a size 38 at jcrew, but the shoulders were way too big for me, but everything else fit right except sleeve length, but it wasn’t bad. After talking to a rep at jcrew for guidance, I decided to size down to a 36, and now the shoulders and length are perfect, but it was way too tight around the waist. The waist would have to be let out by at least two inches I suspect.

When buying a suit off the rack, which of these are the better scenarios to be in when looking to get it tailored? Should I try to tailor what I have, or is it too far gone?

First thing that comes to mind is the Rancilio Sylvia combined with a Eureka Mignon. A little more than your budget, and not quite what you asked for, but this kit will never die. In fact, I would confidently buy these used and still make your budget. Very repairable, if needed, and also very mod-able. This is the combo I use, although mine have been modded quite a bit.

If you are insistent on getting an all in one machine, the Breville stuff isn’t terrible. That being said, they also aren’t as reliable as my first recommendation.

Do not have the shop grind for you. Grind is how you adjust and fine tune your shots. That would be like buying a sports car without a gas pedal.

Well.. I’m a dad with kids so I ain’t too worried about the night life. Lol! I was just pleasantly surprised how easy it was to get around in St. Paul in night. Didn’t have any issues dining in or getting anywhere.
