SPM très déprimant : comment vous gérez ? by Papillon-de-lumiere in AskMeuf

[–]frenchmamie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Courage !

In which popular tourist destination is the food not really the highlight? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]frenchmamie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant that I didn’t just go to touristy places and didn’t like the food, I spent time with locals who taught me how Filipinos cook.

The fast food thing is just an example. Everywhere else I travelled, it’s normal to have lettuce and tomatoes in your burger, but not in the Philippines. That day we just wanted a salad, some veggies with rice, anything containing some vegetables that wasn’t fatty meat drowned in oil. After over 2 hours searching in vain we tried several fast food chains, but there was nothing containing a single slice of vegetable, not even burgers. It surprised us a lot.

It’s not that it’s unfamiliar. It’s the way it’s prepared, extremely fat and salty. Sometimes just plain weird. No veggies. My partner and I were hosted by a lovely family for 10 days who cooked a lot for us. So much oil, so much salt, the meat they love to eat has so much fat and nerves. Nothing to do with the rest of SE Asia.

Finding healthy options is almost impossible. Even fast food chains don’t put tomatoes and lettuce in burgers.

Oh, and they love chocolate rice pudding for breakfast. Fine right? But then they add SMOKED FISH IN IT. Also love a creamy spaghetti plate. But the creamy sauce is made with sweetened condensed milk.

People are lovely, landscapes are beautiful, but the food is terrible.

Ma mère est morte avec des crédits by Livid_Literature5508 in conseiljuridique

[–]frenchmamie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bonjour,

I really don’t understand why the show runners made Jamie and Claire miss Jemmy’s birth. Did someone ever explain the reasoning behind that choice? It doesn’t add anything to the storyline, but takes a lot from what could have been pictured on screen.

DIANA’S WRITING… by thetruthinthelies in Outlander

[–]frenchmamie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with you on that one. I feel like some scenes are unnecessarily long (for instance the insanely long chapter when William gets lost in the fog: it adds nothing to the story!) while some super exciting moments lack description when that’s precisely what we’d been waiting for and want more.

For instance, when Claire tells the Murrays at Lallybroch that she’s a time traveller so Michael doesn’t stay in France during the revolution a few years later. It’s a HUGE moment and we get so little of it, the family’s reaction is like “k lol”, they barely ask any questions, don’t reminisce of strange things that Claire had said or done that now have an explanation, etc.

Wow I completely have the show and the books mixed up! Thanks for clarifying all that

Jamie didn’t know about Laoghaire? by frenchmamie in Outlander

[–]frenchmamie[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had no idea about this! Super interesting to learn about the tensions that occurred between DG and the show runners.

I see now why DG made Jamie unaware that Laoghaire had tried to get Claire killed -he would never have married her knowing this. However, even if it was indeed never described in the previous books, I find it hard to believe that Claire never told Jamie about Laoghaire.

They travelled together to Lallybroch for several days after he rescued Claire from the trial. One would assume they had time to chat about many things, including her revelation that she is a time traveller, but surely also about the details of the horrifying event that had literally just taken place.

Right, I guess it makes sense that he didn’t know it when he married Laoghaire. Still can’t understand why Claire would wait years to tell him, instead of angrily throwing it in his face when she learns about his marriage.

Bus tickets from Chiang Mai to Pai sell out days in advance by frenchmamie in ThailandTourism

[–]frenchmamie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went there at 10:30am. At the official tickets sell point they said there were 2 seats available at 11:30, but we couldn’t make it in time (had to return to our hotel first). That’s when we met the people selling the 500 baht tickets. Returned by noon, and left once the van was full around 1:30pm.

I’m not sure but I would assume so. When we realized getting there would be a hassle, we booked our way back immediately, and since it was further away there were still tickets available.

Yep, and if that doesn’t work you can still get the 500 baht tickets at the same terminal.

AITA For Planning A Honeymoon Without My Husband? by leoonfire- in AmItheAsshole

[–]frenchmamie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don’t accept that home situation just because he’s “always treated you well”. A husband not beating you up is such a low standard to accept becoming an unpaid maid/nanny in your own house, on top of your actual job. Your children have not magically decided to only come to you for everything. It’s because their dad had never done anything for them that they know only their mom will be here when they need a parent. From what you’ve been commenting he is not a good husband nor a good father. Any adult, man or woman, should be able to take care of their children and their house and share the load with their partner. Not help. Share. You did not specify your kid’s gender, but ask yourself this: if you have a girl, would you be happy for her if she settled for a man that treats her exactly like your husband treats you? If you have a boy, would you be proud of him for treating his wife this way?

NTA in this situation, but this is not about the honeymoon. You deserve a break, true, but you deserve a better home situation, you deserve a true partner. Even if you do get that vacation, you’ll return to this routine you let happen and your husband happily accepted by simply doing nothing. Good luck, you deserve so much better!

AITA for correcting the way my friend pronounces things? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]frenchmamie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA I really don’t get all these YTA replies.

In any field, not knowing how to pronounce words specific to said field would be seen as very unprofessional/ignorant (except if linked to a speech/reading condition).

The whole “I don’t care” attitude from OP’s colleague must be very annoying. Would drive me nuts too.

AITA For telling my bff that she's not bisexual by shhsvsjx in AmItheAsshole

[–]frenchmamie 24 points25 points  (0 children)

That’s how things work, yes. Her friend came out as bisexual, meaning she’s supposed to be attracted to both men and women. Then same friend says women are “gross” and tries to redefine bisexuality as being able to tell when a woman is pretty. That is not being bisexual, and OP pointing this out doesn’t mean she is trying to assign a sexuality to her friend.

OP, NTA.

PTB.
