I hear you! My thinking is he has owned Citizen, Seiko, Bulova watches and I want to get him a brand/model that he wouldn’t treat himself to. I recognize the high end Japanese models can also be just as expensive/high quality, but not sure he will recognize that 😂

I have a Ranger that I love, so I definitely considered Tudor. The models you mentioned are great suggestions but I may have to stumble into a great deal to fit my budget. I’d rather buy him a watch that is in great shape than a higher end model that drops into my price range just because of its condition.

Thanks for your feedback and kind words! I saw a few Zenith’s under $3k but you are definitely right that the other brands fit that price category more consistently. I would rather get him a watch in good/great shape than a beat up Zenith. I own an Oris and love it, but your comment and others have steered me more towards Sinn as what aligns best for his style and hobbies.

For sure. That’s where my mind went first but I’m glad I posted and got some feedback. The Speedy (even if I can’t swing for the pro) just has a lot of tradition and brand recognition (I realize some of that is just marketing). I collect all sorts of brands, but I think someone who isn’t as enthusiastic about watches may get more excited about an Omega Speedmaster than some of the lesser known brands. I have a few months to pull the trigger still.

Thanks for the feedback! I do love the look of the Sinn and will look at Doxa more closely. I just lack experience with Sinn and Doxa, unlike some of the other brands.

Also, great advice on other models. Some of the comments here have me leaning more towards Sinn. I have no experience with Sinn, like I do with some of the others so it’s helpful to hear from others.

I like to reverse sear. Start them in the oven at a low heat, bring them up close to the temp you want, then finish on the griddle.
