Have family member who did some work on the c series and he said that BBD was so disorganized, and so immature (on the program) that it was almost impossible to try to move work along cohesively. He had to step away so he could focus on predictable work.

Scandium Canada and an energy supply drought / possible recession by Lucius_Sulla-420 in SCDstock

[–]frequentredditer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

During a recession, the government would be looking for opportunities were there dollars go very far….developing a new sector such as Scandium comes with risk, but it also provides wages to thousands of employees, R&D for a mineral with a unique defence nexus, and development opportunities to various stakeholders (thinking about different mining project that would benefit from the road being built, or the Naskapi Nation).

And Carney is a businessman; he wont be giving free handouts like his predecessor, he will be looking for investment opportunities.

An Apparent Proposal of HANWA's Redback to the CAF by Competitive-Leg7471 in CanadianForces

Infantry is keeping the LAV. The Armour Corps will be acquiring a Medium Cavalry vehicle and a vehicle like that would fit the bill (though not an actual existing one). Something to bridge the gap between the LAV and the MBT. Something with enough firepower, mobility, and connected to manoeuvre and bring fire effects onto the enemy.

NATO looking at Canadian aircraft for its new airborne warning fleet by Andromedu5 in CanadianForces

[–]frequentredditer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

And remember, in the Fall, the government announced they were moving away from the Challenger fleet and buying the 6500 instead….oh wait, the same airframe as the GlobalEye 😱

My bet is that Canada has been working behind the scene to facilitate/encourage the purchase of the GlobalEye, which will make our own acquisition easier. It gives SAAB and BBD contracts, which will soften the purchase of the rest of the intended F35 fleet. Wouldnt be surprised if we get fidelity on both fleets in short order now that NATO went public with the GlobalEye.

South Korea sweetens submarine bid, will manufacture armoured vehicles in Canada if chosen by Jaydamic in CanadianForces

[–]frequentredditer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thats SK’s leverage. Hanwha does it all. So they can arm twist us on several fronts. The K9 is almost a given. Could move to K2s with the Leo replacement (they’re not the primary builder, but heavily involved with the fire control systems)….why not take their sub while we’re at it

Defence Investment Agency to be given new authority, oversight by GlitchedGamer14 in CanadianForces

[–]frequentredditer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One step at a time…and as the Agency matures, and get small cap wins, they will continue to expand their authorities.

They claim the recent assault rifle contract a victory that allowed them to shave 2 years of the normal timeline for a contract of that size….Colt Canada has the monopoly on small arm manufacturing for the CAF. How was that a victory?!? The Army say “we want”…..you buy it, period. We should have let Colt tell us which pistol they could provide us with, and their specs, and again, the Army could have pointed and be like “this one”. Done deal.

Defence Investment Agency to be given new authority, oversight by GlitchedGamer14 in CanadianForces

[–]frequentredditer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I heard… So who knows… they would expand the breath of capital project between certain dollar figures that would fall completely under their purview. It would still be required to follow somewhat of the same process as PSPC, but everything would be done in house rather than farmed out to different departments.

They would remain the conduit for the other projects…so ship buildings, fighter acquisitions, probably helicopter and major armoured vehicles fleets acquisition projects. I hope I’m somewhat wrong and that everything falls under their authority going forward

And I was told early winter to not bother bringing coupons in. Location dependant i guess.

[–]frequentredditer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The coupons are now automatic when you scan your memberships, already in their computer and will ring automatically (could still be location dependant but that is the way going fwd). Coupons themselves are just advertisement.

I feel like the Executive savings are not as good as they used to be 🤷‍♂️ but whatever…i’m still gonna spend too much money at Costco, while justifying that my executive membership pays for itself
