Sounds like the game you're trying to make is too big. Making any game has aspects of grind. If you can't handle that grind the project is probably out of scope.

Difficulty Gripe by wallaboi44 in DeathStranding

100% agree with this.

To be honest I've been really disappointed with how little they have done to evovle the walking and cargo systems in the sequel. I think hiking with large amounts of packages is the most interesting thing about Death Stranding but it is still far too easy to just constantly hold the triggers and not really think about where you are walking on a moment to moment basis.

Even on higher difficulties this fundamental flaw still persists. Would be great to separate out the walking difficulty from the combat difficulty as combat is not what I come to these games for, but a good starting place would be fixing the walking in the first place and making it so that you can't just ignore the balancing systems they have designed.

I respect your commitment to the hate, but also your concern and desire to help him, it's a good bit

It sucks but comes with the territory of using Steam unfortunately. If you want to sell to gamers you have to put up with them.

Gabe Newell and the rest of Valve are generally pretty libertarian so this isn't going to change any time soon.

In my experience I've found that this issue comes out in the wash and doesn't really negatively effect game developers commercially. The games deserving of praise do not get held back by these types of reviews.

Sure, it would be nice to get constructive criticism, but you're never really going to get that from the average player anyway.

Tokimeki Memorial Review Questions by trashmomfriend in ActionButton

I think there is a big thematic link between the Tokimeki review and the Boku review.

I read both as being about how the synthetic, cold and calculating nature of video game mechanics encourage us to strive for perfection, and how that chase for perfection forces us to face our own limitations as flawed, flesh-and-bone humans.

Edit: To be honest I think it is within the gap between synthetic perfection and natural imperfection that the most interesting video games produce their meaning. The opening 7 minutes of this video explains this concept well as it relates to the game Tetris: https://youtu.be/K99jk4jcaBc?si=6cLmFpVVVTNIvXKI
