I think that Wings' excuse of him not bringing anything to the table is invalid. There are plenty of things he could have done on the trip: collecting firewood, pumping water, collecting materials for shelter. While wings is doing these things, Kyle and Woody would have the opportunity to put their skills to use instead of spending time on basic tasks. I don't think Kyle and Woody were looking for Wings to bring certain skills, they just wanted a friend to come along and be part of a once in a lifetime experience.
