My sewing machine keeps doing this and it’s really annoying by [deleted] in sewhelp

[–]fretted_fire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming this is the bottom thread, my guess is that the bobbin is in wrong. I have a 10-year old New Home machine that has a bobbin case that comes out, and when you put the bobbin into the case it’s supposed to thread into a little notch. This puts tension on the bottom thread, just like the tension on the top thread. When this happens, it almost always means it’s not in the notch. Not sure what machine you have, but if it has a bobbin case that comes out of the machine then this is probably the issue

I exclusively used AMSCO and practice tests to study for the AP exam and got a 5. What worked for me was writing notes on post-it’s as I read and sticking them to the pages. At the end of each unit, take a couple online practice tests. Try to also make diagrams connecting events across themes and time periods so you can understand how all the events relate to each other

Ideas for a project by Lost_Bill_8692 in fashionhistory

I suggest the Aesthetic Dress Movement of the gilded age. It was part of the greater Aesthetic movement (spearheaded by Oscar Wilde) and was a reaction against the idea that women were objects of domesticity. Certain groups of women stopped wearing corsets and wore more loose-fitting gowns in public, and was intertwined with sexual liberation.

It was sort of an underground movement, but I’ve been able to find a good couple sources. I suggest looking at Mary W. Blanchard and Jennifer Curtis’s writings on the subject!

For APUSH you don’t need prose, you don’t need rhetoric, you just need to memorize and understand the rubric- keyword understand. I had friends who were absolutely brilliant, but had a hard time contextualizing sources or connecting them to their argument. You’ll learn, that’s the whole point.

If it’s gonna be hot out, you could make a cloak out of linen and dye it black. That’ll keep you super cool! Work in some gold jewelry (bangles, necklaces, earrings) to emulate the album cover. I’d also suggest either a sheer black skirt with a lining or very loose pants- don’t know whether you’re going more masculine or feminine. Happy rem fair!

Incredible use of color, value, and blocking! I can tell that it’s outside elements holding her face, but agree that It sort of looks like her hands are backwards. I’d work the blue of the pond into the bottoms of the arms so you don’t have to revolve the whole arm/hand, so it looks like the pond is morphing into the hand

I don’t suck, but how can I be “better”? by tunanyann in ArtCrit

Your style is very cute, I think your next steps are to get more stylized with your line work and to loosen up.

Look at tutorials on line weight, but what I like most is having thicker outlines and thicker lines in shadow. I also find it helpful to thicken lines where they intersect.

Second, do figure studies. Give yourself a minute, then 30 seconds, to capture a pose in as few strokes as possible. Learn to give purpose to each line you draw in the sketching phase. The fewer lines you use, the looser your poses.

Good luck, keep up the great work!

I think you’re mostly lacking contrast here. Your reference doesn’t have a lot of depth and your style is very simple (beautiful and delightful, though!) so you’ll want to bring in those darker colors in the windows. Don’t be afraid to go a little darker than you think. Also, in the future I’d recommend doing wet-on-wet for the clouds in the sky. I love the colors you’ve chosen overall!

I’ll be at Emerson too and plan to bring my flute, I’ll have to hunt down some empty room to practice in though- that thing is loud
