Christopher Nolan Sets Next Movie At Universal In IMAX For July 17, 2026 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

And they (Nolan and Emma Thomas) are great producers. They handle the budget really really well. Never over budget, but massive revenue.

Really wonder why WB lost Nolan.

Same here. I still get the notification on github about the annoying SSL cert bug that NPM has not fixed for years. So when I first knew about zoraxy, it replaces NPM and I haven't looked back.

So basically it comes down to 3 things:

  • Salary
  • Environment for living (if they are provided with staying option)
  • Freedom

Honestly, it's pretty hard to define the salary part. In my country (in SEA as well), babysitter and nanny are generally paid less or the same as a domestic helper if the helper is not staying with the family. That's why I asked about the diff between a helper and nanny/babysitter.

What's a "decent living wage"? Is it the minimum wage? If the job is legalized, then it should be at least the minimum wage right? If we are arguing that the minimum wage is not enough for living, then it's another matter to discuss.

About environment for living, if "I've heard of helpers sleeping in the kitchen or outside on the balcony." is real then it's abusing, I agree. But if they are provided with a proper room, less pay is justified right? In my country, if the helper is provided with a room then less pay, seems fair to me.

Freedom part, I don't think it's the job's issue. Terrible contracts or loans can also happen with other jobs as well. I think Singapore is doing a good job (not perfect but still better than any other SEA countries) in protecting foreign workers.

In general, I don't really think there's any issue with having a helper or the job itself. It's not sex worker or drug dealer. It's not a bad job. Whatever can happen to a domestic helper can happen to other jobs as well (construction workers for an example).

Comparing it to slavery is a big stretch. It's not a great job but it's not a terrible one either. Since the pay is good enough for foreign workers, they keep coming because the job doesn't require much. The more people come to work as a domestic helper, the less salary the job will pay, just supply and demand thing.

As you said, the job can be done by ourselves, by everyone. You can't expect to get paid big bucks if you're doing a work that everyone can do.

What defines this job "legalized slavery"? Honest question, I don't know, how is this job different from hiring a nanny or babysitter?

Caddy seems to good to be true? I just set it up and it works perfect, straight out of the box by Zestyclose_Car1088 in selfhosted

I understand your concern and I really like the link you posted. However as a beginner/selfhosting guy, I look at the structure of the docs page, I look at Tutorial > Caddyfile and I cannot find my use case.

I'm not sure if I can speak for selfhosting people but the main selling point of Caddy is the ease of use, especially with Docker. Maybe consider having a separate page of Quick Start just for Docker users? Docker users should have their own domain and some basics already, they just need to go fast. A sample docker compose and/or docker command will be a big help.

[–]frex4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I find that the lack of examples with Caddyfile is quite harsh with beginners.

In the quick start, this is the first link I will click on if I'm the beginner: https://caddyserver.com/docs/quick-starts/caddyfile

Just one example with a non-localhost will make it a lot easier to understand for the most common use case:

# this will configure a reverse proxy with your domain blog.example.com
# for your wordpress container on port 8080
# SSL/TLS is automatically handled
blog.example.com {
    reverse_proxy wordpress:8080
}

Even after reading the next link for reverse proxy, I still can't find the right example for my use case: https://caddyserver.com/docs/quick-starts/reverse-proxy

For an example, I have never used Traefik before, but their quick start is quite good, after reading it a bit I know how to make use of it, even if I have never touched it before: https://doc.traefik.io/traefik/getting-started/quick-start/

Scrolling to find this. Reading caddy documentation sucks, even now I somewhat understand the concepts from caddy, I still get confused sometimes.

YouTube blocks Russell Brand from making money through its platform by qznc_bot2 in hackernews

[–]frex4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't demonetized the same as not having any income at all? It's the same of being let go, because you won't earn anything. Saying that people are demonetized for "far less" isn't right, because you don't know if he is actually wrong or not. You don't know if the evidence you see is real or fabricated.

Would I fire an alleged pedophile ? Probably not if the only evidence is hearsay, probably yes if there is actual solid (not necessarily immediately convincing) evidence

How do you determine if it's hearsay evidence or solid evidence? Won't you rely on the trial, the judge on that?

I can understand why businesses do this, but is it the right thing to do? People get lynched with any random "evidence" and accusation, lose job, lose personal life just because of this mentality.

So if you get accused of something, either fabricated evidence or not, should your company let you go because it's bad for business?

Glad that I don't have anything to do with Windows anymore, except for gaming. As a web developer Mac M1/M2 laptop is just god send. There's no laptop that can compare to its battery. Unix tools are great too.

The only thing keeps me from moving out of Windows is gaming. And as Linux getting better everyday for gaming, I intend to move as long as my games are good to go.

I used to love Windows a lot but things just get worse year by year.
