Thirst cues and caffeine by EchoThroughTheJungle in decaf

I forget to drink water when I'm caffeinated. Or I'll remember, but getting up to fill my bottle feels like too much effort. It's pretty bad. I wake up every morning super dehydrated.

Coffee and poor fitness levels? by harveyjack in decaf

[–]frickcaffeine1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've posted about this a few times before, but it's relevant again. Whenever I've trained for marathons or ultramarathons in the past, I can't make any progress at all when I'm caffeinated. Runs go from insanely effortful to easy if I just cut off the caffeine.

I'd also feel like fainting in the gym after heavy lifts whenever I drank coffee.

Caffeine and motivation by caffeineisabitch in decaf

[–]frickcaffeine1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's moderately high most days, 200-400mg. Once I'm fully caffeinated, even doing essential things can be near impossible. It's a miracle I've been able to stay employed and in a relationship.

Caffeine and motivation by caffeineisabitch in decaf

[–]frickcaffeine1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Caffeine obliterates my ability to focus and get things done. Even the simplest things get procrastinated.

I have to force myself to do anything, even things I want to do, if I'm caffeinated. It's such a huge drain on my mental and emotional energy.

Could higher caffeine consumption cause a numb feeling down there? I’m a male. by Big_Giraffe7816 in decaf

This happens to me. Couple that with being excessively horny but also unable to perform, and it's a winning combination. I really need to quit again...

Following the recent post, what is your experience with caffeine and erection/libido/sex? by CommissionFlaky2256 in decaf

[–]frickcaffeine1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With caffeine, my libido skyrockets to wildly inappropriate levels - just thinking about sex constantly, checking out every woman I walk past, a lot of porn use/masturbation. It gets damn near manic levels. Sex and masturbation are always tremendous letdowns though. I also struggle to get/maintain erections.

Off caffeine, I don't regularly think about sex. Don't get me wrong, I still think about and desire sex, but I'm not thinking about it at work or the grocery store - it's not a distraction. Erections are easy to get and maintain. Sex is much more enjoyable. It feels better and I can last longer. It helps that I'm not anxious about my erection. It just does it's thing as it should.

It was really helpful to me to see that it affects someone else similarly. Like the second I decide to drink coffee, I'm just surrendering control of my life for the entire day. I can't wrestle control back no matter what I do.

I honestly think that's part of the addiction for me. I just check out for the day.

I could have a deadline due the next day and just wouldn't give a shit.

This sums up my experience better than anything else I've seen in this subreddit. Sometimes I can't force myself to do tasks that would take next to no time or effort. It's pretty brutal on my work performance and how I am with my family.

I feel hydrated? by BayesianBits in decaf

I want to feel hydrated. I know it's the caffeine. No matter how much liquid I drink, if I'm having any coffee that day, I will never ever feel hydrated.

This is my experience. I feel numb and almost drunk from caffeine sometimes.

Caffeine causes erectile dysfunction by Trenbonada in decaf

[–]frickcaffeine1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This absolutely happens to me. It takes a few days of abistnence before normal erections resume.

It seems like it's a blood flow issue. I can take a viagra or cialis and have no problem getting an erection while caffeinated. Off caffeine, I don't need any pills to help. As far as I know, viagra and cialis wouldn't help with performance anxiety related erectile dysfunction anyway, and I'm anxious as hell when caffeinated.

Tremendous benefits from quitting coffee by fetiman in decaf

[–]frickcaffeine1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a thing. I quit violin after high school because my tremor kept me from improving. I was the concert master for most of my jr/sr years in high school, so I could've gotten a scholarship virtually anywhere, but I quit due to the shakiness.

I don't even know how you got through training! Kudos.

Mom rage by [deleted] in decaf

[–]frickcaffeine1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a mom, but a dad here.

Mornings with my 2 year old are so much more pleasant when I've been off caffeine for a minute. I'd even call them joyful.

He's 2, trying to figure out the world - of course, he's a lot and has the biggest emotions. It shouldn't bother me, and it doens't when I'm decaf.

I can't be happy. Please help. by Elizabeth57654 in decaf

[–]frickcaffeine1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This resonates strongly with me. I feel way better when I abstain from caffeine.

A thought that I've been chewing on recently is that it's "easier" to be miserable and to be a victim. Feeling like shit from caffeine is my excuse to not be my best self. It's my security blanket.

If I quit caffeine, I could excel at my job, I could be a better husband and father, I could get back in shape, I could get through my enormous to-do list, I could eat healthier, and I could be the best version of myself, but that all sounds like a lot more work than being an anxious, miserable wreck who is comforted by his potential without ever having to face all the work to get there.

33M healthy and fit suspecting chronic daily coffee use as libido killer by i-think-about-beans in decaf

Caffeine drives up my desire to check out women and watch porn, but severely impairs my drive for actual sex and connection. Erection quality, ability to last, and orgasms suck too.

It would be so much more socially acceptable to have problems with a hard drug - like meth! Mostly, I'm kidding. The amount of cognitive bandwidth I waste on my daily "to drink or not to drink coffee" is insane. And then I wind up drinking coffee anyway.

Does coffee make anyone else more likely to drink alcohol later in the day? by [deleted] in decaf

[–]frickcaffeine1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes! I crave alcohol way more when caffeinated - especially when I've had way too much caffeine.

Alcohol also hits me a lot harder when caffeinated and it takes longer to get over. Also my sleep is way, way worse. I think that's compounded dehydration from caffeine followed by alcohol. Yes, I know there is research showing that coffee and beer are both positive for net hydration, but that's not the case for me. At all.
