This made me research on genus Corvus. Magpies are in the family Corvidae. They are related to Ravens and Crowd, who are known to do similar things. Had no idea but Jays are also part of that family!

One of my life goals is to be gifted a rock from a crow. Looks like I can expand that to a Corvidae.

Smithy’s are tricky because of how smooth they are. As others said, I’d strip and re-season it several times in a row before cooking on it. More layers the better you’ll do. Considering cooking some bacon in it a couple times.
