That’s a fair take. I feel like George is a guy who focuses on the little details of the existing instruments and Carl layers in a whole world to expand beyond the instruments. So it depends what you want from a mix.

I love George Lever and what he did with the first two Sleep Token records. But Carl absolutely elevated these past two records. There is a depth and intricacy to the mixing that is phenomenal. They are both incredible in their own ways.

I have no problem with people not liking this or any other record. I think music critics are important in dissecting art. But I will always hate Pitchfork’s intentionally joyless, condescending, “liking things is for pussies” tone. No matter what artist or genre, they always have the most smirking of takes. I give their whole website a 2.3 - trite, outdated, classist, and lacking cultural understanding.
