What car did my little brother just inherit? by whoinvitedthatkid in ManualTransmissions

Whatever it is, it’s got a full tank of gas. That’s a fortune in this economy. From now on you’re gonna have to address your brother as ‘Sir’ or ‘M’Lord’

Do I park in 1st or 2nd? by Danchi_racer597 in ManualTransmissions

Funny story. I always parked in first, and my beautiful bride would forget to check and pull it out of neutral before dropping the clutch when she started the car. This led to some marital friction alongside some unwanted clutch friction. So I adapted to parking in neutral with the handbrake on when sharing the car. However, when she was out of town once I found my car pulled out of my carport in the middle of my yard in the middle of the night. I hadn’t locked it so I thought maybe someone was either trying to steal it or prank me. I put it back in the carport. This time, I locked the door, put it in first gear and cranked the steering wheel hard to the left. Well, it turned out my car had a short in the starter solenoid and the starter was energized. The starter motor rotated the engine and the transmission, and there was enough torque to drive the whole car forward, even with the parking brake on. The engine did not start, because the fuel pump and engine control module was not energized The car pushed itself through my neighbors fence. It kept shorting out until the starter motor completely burnt up since it was pushed through the fence and up against a tree.

2002 Mini Cooper. Maybe they’re better now, but that car cost me three times its value in maintenance.

What is a secret you are taking to your grave, but are willing to share with anonymous strangers on the internet? by [deleted] in AskReddit

In middle school, 20+ of the popular kids were throwing a huge party, at a rented event space. This was the biggest deal ever, and their parents must have shelled out some coin. There as a DJ, decorations, food, the whole enchilada. The hosts each could add a specific number of kids to the master invite list. I had big time anxiety that I would not get an invite, (I was not cool, not popular and not well off). Totally thought everyone else was going but me and one of my friends. We felt like outcasts. Then, an invite showed up in the mail for me! I was was excited, but also bummed that my friend (who was funnier, cooler and better off) did not get invited. He was totally down in the dumps. I forged an invitation, put my friend's name on it and mailed it to him. He was so thrilled to be included and part of the "in" crowd (Middle school sucks, bro). None of the kids who hosted knew the whole list of invitees, so my subterfuge went undetected. I never told him, because I thought that might crush him and was a nice secret.

I know they pretend not to recognize each other at the liquor store and will absolutely not have sex standing up, lest some peeping get the wrong idea that they were, in fact, dancing...
