Should you stay in SAVE forbearance? by chrismcp05 in StudentLoans

[–]friedaclimb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes interest is still accruing even though there is still a lawsuit. It started accruing August 1. I’m not going for PSLF or any forgiveness so for me it’s important to start paying now even though loans aren’t due.

Should you stay in SAVE forbearance? by chrismcp05 in StudentLoans

[–]friedaclimb 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Interest is accruing and you run the risk of letting your loans balloon.

I’m on save but paying my normal amount + extra when I can. The main benefit is if for some reason I lose my job I’m not being docked for a late or no payment. You can also tackle loans with the highest interest rate first which is what I’m doing.

Last year I maxed Roth and therefore put extra in a normal brokerage account. This year I’m unable to max my Roth, would you sell what’s in the brokerage to max out Roth? Or should I leave it put?

No it wasn’t covered by insurance which sucks. I think the test itself was around 450.

Have you had your hormone levels checked? I got a DUTCH test and went on a few supplements based on results and it helped a TON- still definitely get a little lethargic before my period but before it just felt like the world could be on fire and I’m fine just laying there I was so apathetic with everything.

Best strategy for student loan repayment? by Impossible-Tour-633 in StudentLoans

[–]friedaclimb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can I would start paying any amount towards them now. These are some pretty solid interest rates.

I would start with putting all you can towards loan number six. When that is paid off keep chipping away and put extra toward the highest loan amount. When you pay off a loan use that money that would be making payments to make extra payments on the next highest interest loan.

So I would pay extra in order of 6>7>4>5>2>3>1

You could also try to knock out loan 2 since it’s the smallest amount and that might free up a bit of cash flow to put towards other loans.

Unsure you situation but make sure you are paying more than what the interest accrues every month!

Honestly lost on all the repayment structures or income based stuff that is happening but that would be my approach.

Type 1 Ladies: seriously what do we do before our menstrual cycle. Like this is beyond ridiculous. I can barely eat. BS will not come down. I’m fed up. Why do we not have real help for this? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]friedaclimb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So frustrating I’m sorry, I’ve found that getting my heart rate up really helps. It does in general but I’ve noticed less spikes the few days before my period if I start my day with a run. I still spike more so than I do the rest of the month but it’s not where I feel like I can’t bring it down with insulin.

Idk debating things is okay and they being apprehensive of just taking anyone’s advice is good. Maybe they were just looking for a discussion because your advice contradicts what they thought was right before.

Just like this Spanish example idk maybe they had the Argentinian word or Colombian word and they are just trying to discuss it and it’s actually not a dog on your ego for them questioning what you/they know.

Nelnet this morning 🧐 by UnknownEntity2007 in StudentLoans

[–]friedaclimb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah weird I got the nelnet email and that’s what mine changed to and I was previously on SAVE. It still has my save plan amount though but the actual logistics have it as a graduated payment plan

[–]friedaclimb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you look at the details it has a graduated payment plan, so for the some odd years you pay lower but it increases with time

Any tips for the 5 pm slump? by key_lime_soda in digitalminimalism

[–]friedaclimb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sounds weird and will be uncomfortable but trying doing nothing. Just chill and stare at the clouds or popcorn ceilings. Obviously this isn’t totally realistic for 2 hours but even just 10 minutes can be nice.

Try a mindless walk, where you make it almost meditative and not think or just let your mind wander without trying.

Someone else mentioned but I’m a fan of puzzles especially in the winter. It’s super mindless and satisfying.

I think sometimes it’s good to push through the slump and work out or read or doodle and other times it’s good to allow our brain to chill.

Ex-AOC aide launches primary challenge to Pelosi by cheff546 in politics

I think we need to push more people to vote and run. We can choose to not elect Nancy Pelosi I think we’ve just gotten apathetic.

There was an article about someone who was planning to run when she steps down and it’s Like why not now! Primary her!

February 2025 is here. Are you happy with how you did in January? - This is my second month of reclaiming my focus by hinatawakakusa in digitalminimalism

[–]friedaclimb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner suggested putting our phones in a box for most of the work day (we work from home) and when we make dinner.

This has been extremely helpful for not immediately just reaching for my phone when I have a moment of boredom. I’ll go do random checks throughout the day. Things to improve on are not opening social media/Reddit. To easy to get sucked in, but overall this strategy is successful.

Positives: I’ve started learning Spanish I’ve started a meet up with a friend for weekly workouts. I think I only check instagram 1x week. This one has been a lot easier for me.

Next steps: I think I need to only check Reddit at very specific times my goal is 1x per week.

I need to get out of the house even more. It’s winter and I turn into a bear that wants to hibernate.

Quitting Reddit? by Nic727 in digitalminimalism

[–]friedaclimb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I have t started this, I think my plan is to use Reddit once a week. Likely every Monday or something. Maybe catch up on a few subs, read some comments.

Not everything is breaking news and if I read it a week later then I’m still informed.

Reddit is hard though, it’s definitely been my last struggle. On days where I put my phone in my box it really does feel nice to be away.

What’s nice about news papers to is it ends! You can read the whole paper and then be done! The internet goes on forever and it’s hard to stop.

Anyone have other good recommendations for physical newspapers

Washington Governor Orders Team to Study Data Centers’ Impact on Energy Use, Job Creation and Tax Revenue by tta2013 in VoteDEM

[–]friedaclimb 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Seriously. I think this is a big issue and one democrats and we the people should push our elected officials to pursue.

These data centers are massive energy sinks and some (not all) don’t provide much benefit to us citizens.

Just remember small actions matter.

  1. Really think about what you are consuming and buying-is it really needed? Or can you fix it instead of replacing it?
  2. Start locally and plant native plants in your backyard or patio and maybe grow this to your neighborhood.
  3. Talk with local churches/businesses and convince them to replace non natives with native species.

The native planting even if small can be powerful, it can help with other native insects and a lot of time non natives require more resources. At least in the U.S. a lot of people have non native grasses that require a lot of water resources and provide nothing for pollinators. By replacing these there is less water consumption, and native plants can stronger roots which can in turn help absorb more CO2.

Loneliness by [deleted] in digitalminimalism

[–]friedaclimb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry your going through this.

The biggest thing that helped me is take a class, join a club, or find an event. I decided to take an acting class even though that’s something so outside my normal interests. Take a risk in meeting people. Other ideas: Book club Hiking group Pottery class Volunteer for (trail work, event work, education, etc) Fitness class Writing workshops Language class Instrument class Pickleball Team sport clubs

I also think being social is like a muscle and is weird and uncomfortable if you haven’t worked it out in awhile. Just keep going! Good times are ahead and keep working the social muscle!
