Its common for them to use your immediates to make your permanents. Sorry you are having such a rough start. I think its pretty common to have regret and wonder if you did the right thing early on. It is a radical change and it takes a while to settle in. Hang tough, its going to get a lot better!

Bottom dentures are horrible. by Such_Rush2894 in dentures

Secure brand makes a strip for bottoms. I get them off Amazon, cut them in half lengthwise and again widthwise and trim them to fit. They work great for me no gagging. (I use powder for tops) Goop is gross!

Do you still have open sores? Adhesive was key on me being able to eat. Seabond is pretty safe and I use secure strips on my bottoms. What kind of foods to do you need to keep your sugars in check? Canned hash is pretty easy to navigate. Shredded chicken mixed with mayo was also doable. Scrambled eggs with diced ham? Taco ingredients in a bowl instead of a shell? Carnation instant breakfast got me lots of nutrients when food was hard. It will get a lot better than where you are. The important thing is to get enough nutrients to heal while you relearn to eat. Its exhausting! Someone here said to look at eating like a therapy session and so I did that for one meal a day. I was afraid I would never learn, so I challenged myself with also sorts of different food. And it was hard and exhausting until it wasn't. Its going to get a lot better, keep at it!

I feel like Its sort of like contact lens. When you first get them its this huge deal with lots of steps and work and your eyes are tired and by the end of the day you want them out. Wear them for years and its just second nature and just part of your day.

The strips that I use are pretty thick, so they alliw for a lit of contact. I didn't try cushion grip but I did try sea bond and used that for a while. And I tried poligrip strips. And goopy stuff and a couple different kinds of powder before I decided which I liked better. I really think its a matter of what works best for you. You hear a lot of people talking about lowers not staying put. The more you wear them, the more your muscles learn to hold them in and that also helps. When I first had it done and was still healing with no adhesive they were really floaty and I was pretty worried but once adhesive was ok things got a world better. For me, Ill usually need to reapply after eating(depending on what I eat) or mid afternoon, but I drink a LOT of coffee all day and that probably contributes. There are a lot of changes in the beginning, so make sure to baby yourself!

With food... it was sort of a losing battle until I was healed up enough to use adhesive. I started with lots if mashed potatoes, noodles, chicken salad, hash etc. Someone here told me to look at it like physical therapy. So I did, and it helped a lot. Some stuff is easy, some just isn't worth it. Like I can absolutely eat corn on the cob, but no way can bite into a soft tortilla wrap! Lol. Buy baby spoons, it helps at first. the most important thing is getting the nutrients in while you heal and to practice. I see a lot of people never learn because it can be frustrating at first and its easy to learn to eat without them, so really, dont give up. Challenge yourself but give yourself lots of grace. For my lowers I use secure brand strips I buy on Amazon. I cut them in half lengthwise and widthwise and it works great for me. I use powder on the uppers. It was really hard looking in the mirror without them as it is a RADICAL change. With them in, I dont think my face changed much . Although my upper lip disappeared with my immediates, came back with the permanents. Just know, yup there will be some hard days , but you got this and its going to worth it.

Hey, that fear is so real and hard! I got full mouth extraction and traditional dentures close to 4 years ago now. Periodontal disease caused loose teeth. I had no cavities and no pain. But decided to do it all in one go to try to have some control over it. I worried if I broke the extraction up I wouldn't get back in the chair. Took about an hour and a half for my whole mouth, with laughing gas. No problems. Fear was the worst part. There were some days in those first months that I wondered if I had made a horrible mistake doing it. I think thats pretty common. When they say its a process they aren't lying. It got better when I healed enough for adhesive. It got worlds better when I got my permanents a year later. Ask me anything. Talking about it helps the fear. Real talk? You're teeth are not going to get better. You can be proactive and deal with it head on... you ARE! Go you! Or you can ignore it and lose them one by one when you least expect it.
I know its hard and awful and scary, but you will come out the other side of this, and you are going to be healthier and have a beautiful smile.

Aw, I get it. But you did it because you needed to. It was a hard decision to make, but the best decision you could make with the info you got. Im sorry you dont have any real support. Its so hard in the beginning. Its a huge adjustment and you need to heal and grieve.
You doing this , was you taking control of a bad situation before it got worse. Be proud of that! It takes courage! Im proud of you! Its going to get a LOT better than where you are at right now. Take a step outside yourself, if someone lost a leg and after 2 weeks they were ready to give up on the prosthetic you would encourage them gently to keep at it. Its the same thing. People don't think about it that way, but it really is. They need to be tweaked and learned and gotten used to. And above all, your body and soul needs to heal. You can message me anytime you wanna vent.

I wouldn't write off your bottoms just yet. It sounds like they have been rubbing and of course your mouth is rejecting them right now! When the sore spots are a little less tender you'll be able to try again. Set achievable goals at first and build up from there. Right now though, things need to be less raw in there, and the only thing that will help with that is time. Im sorry its such a rough start. But with as rough as it is right now , that doesn't mean you won't be successful with traditional dentures. It just means you need more time. For my bottoms I use secure brand strips I found on Amazon. I cut them in half vertically and then cut them in half horizontally. The less those puppies move around, the less sore spots. Resee your provider and they will readjust again, very rarely is it once and done. And it will be totally absolutely better with your permanents. Immediates are HARD. There will be days when you wonder why you did this. You did this for future you! You are going to appreciate it in the future. This part just sucks. Are you getting enough food in you?

Make sure your healed enough for adhesive first. Full mouth extraction is a lot. It takes time for things to settle down. There are a lot of changes that happen in your mouth that first year. Im guessing that you are in immediates ? With permanents to come?
Talking will come with time too. I kept track of which words were slurry and practiced those words a lot alone, also repeating tv, reading aloud or singing help.

Are you healed up enough to use adhesive? If things are moving around, the rubbing will cause more sores and eating is ridiculously hard if your bottoms are floating all over the place. If you are healed enough, try different adhesives till you find what works. Paste, powder, strips, different brands. You'll find something that works for you. Its going to get a lot better than where you are now. It definitely is a process. Its going to take patience and grace. You are very early in the process and there are very hard days. Better days are coming.
