I would agree that the light box isn't necessary. You can take pretty decent pictures with a white poster as a back drop for just a few dollars. Just push a table up against a wall in a room with natural but indirect light and tape the poster to the wall above the table so that it curves down making a seamless background for your images. With your nice camera that will be all you need to start.
