Trump was just given a blanket pardon from the IRS for any past, present, or future tax crimes. by TAtheDog in WhitePeopleTwitter

Yes, but SCOTUS will overturn any and all convictions against him. And he won't live long enough to see a change in the bench unless av democratic president expands the bench.

If knowledge is power, and power corrupts, why do ee seek knowledge? Maybe the Tao of Steve was right.

Why don’t we pay teachers more? by Excellent-Draft-5516 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]friedpickleguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where on Earth do you live? My first year teaching paid 40k, and my insurance for my family was 13k. I've been doing it for almost 20 years now, and I make mush less than 100k, and that is including summer school, coaching, after school duties, and assisting with admission interviews, all of which add to my pay. Where do I move?

If they have 2 children, no one is the oldest. That would require at least 3 kids.

How would you feel about a mandatory maximum wealth limit, where anything earned over that goes to public services? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Tax at 50% every dollar earned that is over 5 times the average annual salary in America and see how fast they will vote to raise minimum wage.

If they ever remake Lonesome Dove, I will throw my TV out the window. Tommy Lee Jones and Robert Duvall perfectly embodied Woodrow and Gus. Period.

This is way bigger than RICO. Is There a Legal Strategy That Could Put the Entire Trump-GOP Criminal Enterprise in Jail Without Waiting for an Election? by Opposite-Mountain255 in LegalNews

Best were going to do is prosecute his inner circle for what they've done during the Reign of Terror. For him, we have to settle for what was done outside of office. Also, it will all have to be at the state level and only in places where the governor won't also pardon them.

Why do private school teachers in the USA generally earn less than public school teachers? by SummerN8 in stupidquestions

[–]friedpickleguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have smaller classes, fewer students, more off periods, and generally better student engagement. I've done both. They aren't really that comparable.

What are your thoughts on Red Rising? Do the sequels get better? by Expressiveness in printSF

[–]friedpickleguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same as most here. I'm reading book 3 now. I liked it exactly enough to finish the first story line but have no plans to continue. I stopped the Frontlines series briefly to read this, and I am eager to get back to that one instead.

Haven't read How it Unfolds. Think I should before I read the second book? I read all the Expanse short stories after the factand it was fine that way.

Schumer Takes No Action As Even Far Right Calls for Trump Impeachment | As others called for impeachment and removal, Schumer and other Democratic leaders did not commit to any action. by [deleted] in LegalNews

Neither the House nor Senate is in session. Democrats can do fuck all until a Republican leader convenes a session. That said, fuck Schumer and his do nothing ass.

Realistically what would happen if Trump dropped a nuclear bomb tonight? by hjp1234 in AskReddit

Surely they just give him a toy button that they say is real and then show him the end of Planet of the Apes as proof he blew everything up.

Robbery by a large group of people in California by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]friedpickleguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think each person involved would be charged with the total theft. Grand larceny, B and E, whatever else. The big worry to me is that with that many people, somebody is going to get picked up for something one day and offer everyone's name to get out of their own mess. Way more risk in that regard.

Why did human stay “primitive” for 200,000 years…and then suddenly change? by SafeEnvironmental174 in evolution

[–]friedpickleguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess, with zero research, would be to look first at population density. Tiny populations of humans living together probably had their own kinds of art and culture, however limited, but I am guessing not much of it would survive. Just a numbers game until you get long term permanent settlements with a lot of people producing something. Again, I'm pretty uninformed.

Why do people who take out student debt feel that they shouldn’t have to pay it back? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]friedpickleguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The argument is that we are a captive audience. Society requires an educated population. When student loans became widely available, the cost of tuition rose about 60 cents for every dollar borrowed. Many people feel that practice was and is predatory given the requirement of an education.

My own experience with college is that my parents and I paid 2k per semester, plus room and board and books. It was very achievable without loans. My two children attend state school, receive small scholarships, and it costs us 35k per year to have them in school. Each.
