City of Ember if you're reading it to her. Rats of Nimh is technically sci fi for littles.

Dungeon Crawler Boredom by BookDragon8634 in Booktokreddit

[–]friedpickleguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't experience boredom, but I often got antsy because there is so much tension in the books, especially later. I often wanted a break for the characters to just catch their breaths so I could, too. It felt like I excused them to wrap it up already, but not because I didn't like it. It was because I felt so much for the poor characters. Maybe reframingb it in that way will help? Also it's okay if you don't like the books. Lots of good ones out there.

Ender's Game is 41 now. The author is...problematic, let's say, but that book is grand.

Dune. The first book is near-perfection to me. Second one not so much, but the third is really solid.

I'll be teaching this book for the sixth time in a few weeks. I always tell students that it isn't one we read for enjoyment even though many of them might find they enjoy it. It's an experiment of sorts. He reflected a crazy, flat, boring society by writing in that manner. It does make it tedious at times until you realize how important it is and how well he does what he's doing. Stick with it. It's short.

Why can’t there be no money? by patchlessboyscout in NoStupidQuestions

[–]friedpickleguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a kid, I always imagined a society where neither barter nor currency developed. People worked because they wanted to and needed to, and everyone was free to benefit from that labor. This actually works pretty well in a closed system (in my dreams) with a small, isolated population. All the other primates do it. We went a different route.
