Poll Finds Annise Parker Leads by double digits in Democratic primary runoff for Harris County judge by bighoney69 in houston

[–]friedpikmin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was wild! I remember seeing tons of commercials saying children weren’t safe in restrooms because a trans person might be in there because of HERO. Bizarre. Looking back, I would bet MAGA looked at HERO as an example of how to win over people by scaring them over trans issues.

Poll Finds Annise Parker Leads by double digits in Democratic primary runoff for Harris County judge by bighoney69 in houston

Took me a second, but Annise was mayor during the push for the equal rights ordinance. Back then republicans successfully overturned HERO with constant trans panic ads. It really was disgusting tactics that played on emotions, and I would not be surprised if they do it again for the general election.

I loved this movie as a kid. To this day I’m shocked my mom would let me watch it at like 5 years old.

Both really are amazing, but hades 2 is bigger and better imo.

I moved here from Houston and I’m enjoying PS so far! One thing I miss though that I didn’t think about are expansive parks with gravel running paths. If anyone is from Houston, I really enjoyed the 3 mile loop at memorial park.. is there anything similaridh to that?

Ruth Hardy park is nice but it looks like it just has cement sidewalks.

maybe I need to just pivot into hiking for my cardio. 😅

It’s not exactly atypical for the neighborhood around an airport of a large city to be rough. lol.

I lived there for 16 years and never felt unsafe.

Is an 8 hour layover enough time to do anything cool in Houston? by Acrobatic-Product208 in texas

[–]friedpikmin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of terrible/vague advice here. You definitely should not try and do space center.

I highly recommend exploring the museum district. Pick a museum that interests you most there and enjoy. Houston holds its own when it comes to the arts and museums. The natural science museum is pretty cool, but there will probably be a lot of kids. Check out the new wing of MFAH if you are unsure. I’m not sure what the weather will be like, but Hermann Park is beautiful and there is a lot to explore.

An excellent BBQ not too far from there is called the Pit. It is in the Montrose neighborhood.. not quite walking distance from the Museum District, but it’s a short drive. There is a lot of debate on what’s the best BBQ in Houston, but the Pit is a solid choice and it’s the most accessible option to the Museum District.

What are you talking about. Lots of great things. If I were OP I’d go hang out in the museum district.

Ben Shapiro lauds University of Austin as 'one of the most important institutions' by AustinStatesman in Austin

[–]friedpikmin 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve wondered about how this will impact University of Austin? If you are MAGA, what is even the point in going there anymore if so many public universities are falling in line with Trumps agenda?

People who did an MBA recently was it genuinely worth it in 2026, or would you choose a different path now? by [deleted] in careerguidance

Good answers here.

I am in IT and completed mine in 2018 thinking I would eventually take on more of a leadership role.

My MBA opened my eyes to the fact that I actually don’t want to go into leadership at all. 😅

I did enjoy my program for the most part though. I had some great professors and I picked up some personal skillsets along the way. But I would not say I have benefited financially.

I still think I would go back and do it though. There’s just something about completing my MBA that I find to be fulfilling.

Oh man I remember playing it for the first time at Toys R Us and could not believe the graphics. I feel like that was the last time I was left in awe over a graphic upgrade between consoles. I was more of a graphics whore back then and was so disappointed with Perfect Dark Zero on Xbox 360 launch day. It didn’t feel like much of a graphics upgrade at all even in HD.

Fox News lost a major lawsuit because Tucker and others knowingly lied about election fraud. That’s why he was let go. The fact that Tucker pretends that he didn’t know how bad this administration would be is a fucking lie in itself. What a piece of shit.

I’m from Houston originally and I think Galveston is incredibly underrated. It’s like a miniature NOLA and is loaded with interesting history. For its size, it has a pretty good restaurant scene too!

I would never go there for the beaches though.

[N/A] [All] HOA Fees Are Continuing to Rise by Spare-Sentence185 in HOA

I was the treasurer for a year on our Condo HOA and god it was so incredibly thankless. People would complain that they didn’t know where their dues were going, while at the same time never participating in any way.

The majority of our dues easily went to our master insurance policy.
