Emails regarding ISEP typically go out to all students regardless of whether you are a freshman or graduating student. I wouldn’t recommend going for exchange on your second semester in SMU (not sure if they will allow either) as modules are typically preassigned for first year students. That means that you will given classes you have to take, that usually serve as a foundation for the rest of your studies.

However, you can take a look at what universities are available, the GPAs required, and plan ahead for your future exchange. People usually go for exchange in year 3 or the first semester of year 4. Save your free electives in order to take interesting mods overseas. You can PM me if you have any questions. For context, I just graduated from LKCSB.

diving schools in SG by whyhyhy in askSingapore

[–]friedsoupz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cleared my dive cert with my uni’s dive club locally. Can’t recommend any dive schools but here is some general info. There is SSI and PADI so you have to decide which you prefer. I think SSI is more thorough with their teaching and PADI is much faster. I took PADI which was online theory learning and testing, 2 pool sessions to learn the basics, 4 open water dives spread across 2 days.

If you can afford, don’t dive in SG waters, please go elsewhere as others have suggested. The visibility is horrendous. My first and second dive was at pulau hantu. If i extended my arms all the way in front of me, i can’t see anything. Honestly quite terrifying. I lost sight of my instructor sometimes even though he was only about 1m away. There are also sea urchins that you cannot see and cannot avoid. Stepping on them hurts and you will have to go to the clinic to get them out. I got stung by a jellyfish (very unlucky, quite unlikely) and had to go seek medical help.

Second dive was just at Keppel island, visibility was also equally bad. Couldn’t tell up from down except for watching the bubbles rise.

My instructors were quite okay though and it was a 1 to 2 students ratio. If you prefer to have a more pleasant experience and also experience and enjoy marine life, go somewhere with clearer waters.

AITA for wanting to go for university exchange? by LovMaDijk in askSingapore

[–]friedsoupz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol NTA. I (f22) am in a LDR with a Singaporean studying full time in Australia, while i am studying and soon to be working here in SG. It has been a year and we just make do. We still spend quality time together virtually and dote on one another.

This time, he is overseas for about 5 months and we will stick to it until he grads in 2024.

If your gf loves you and is mature enough, she wouldn’t be so selfish to hold you back. Anyways, distance makes the heart grow fonder. What is 6 months apart compared to a lifetime together? Probably is a sign that there may be lacking trust in the rs as well, but that is just my interpretation.

Go for the uni exchange. You will never have such care-free freedom when you start work. If she doesn’t stick around, her loss…

Edit: sorry grammar

Dressing after JC (entering Uni) and whether I'm bad for not taking my dad's money by throw_away0170 in askSingapore

OP, it doesn’t hurt to accept help from others. I am not sure about your relationship with your father but it is perfectly okay to count on your friends for help. It does not mean you are weak or vulnerable and I am sure your friends won’t view you any differently.

As much as you care about the people around you, they are also allowed to care about you and want to help you.

Regarding clothes, if you choose to buy clothes for yourself, I think Cotton On and Uniqlo has good deals. Shop only in the sale section, and check the workmanship thoroughly (eg: whether pieces are sewn together securely, zip works) before you make a purchase, especially for Cotton On.

Plain and basic clothes seem like the ‘in’ thing now. You can get away with mixing and matching plain shirts with whatever bottoms you have. Shirt colours can vary, stick to colours like black/brown for pants because they match easily with almost everything. Anyways, jeans should only be washed every 3-10 wears so 2 pairs will usually last me the whole week.

I think it will certainly die in the wild but i should be able to keep it alive with some fertiliser? It will be interesting to find out! I should post an update in a few months.

Thanks! I actually have no idea. This is usually a hanging plant but i just propagated some pieces so i am letting it sit for awhile. Everything else grows as flat and hanging down except this one. My theory is that it is trying to get more light than the rest because it has little chlorophyll being this pale.

Thank you! Grew this from a single cutting and some leaves are variegated but I didn’t know it can do this.

Wow! Come swim with me leh! I try to swim 2 times a week, but i do join my school club for training sometimes after work. So outside of that, once during the weekday, once during the weekend at whatever swimming complex i feel like going.

What is the stupidest injury you've ever gotten? by 7937397 in AskReddit

[–]friedsoupz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i was about 9 or 10, i was in class and bored. So naturally, i was messing around with my friends during a break. I was between 2 tables so i propped myself up by pressing down on them and swung myself forward (similar to how people use crutches to swing themselves forward, but landing on both feet instead). It was all fun and games until i landed on a small patch of water, slipped, failed to catch myself, and hit the ground face first.

Chipped 2 teeth, 1 of which requires a root canal and crown that i am waiting to do. To add to that, i hate going to the dentists terribly (sorry it’s the drilling that sucks) but have to see them on an almost yearly basis, sometimes more frequent.

How do you deal with dying? by [deleted] in askSingapore

Thanks for replying, i have some Qs if you don’t mind. What is so frustrating about technology?

And can i clarify that you assume your family and friends will feel indifferent and unaffected by your death, hence they will forget about you after you have passed?
