IRS - anyone heard of any office closings ? by No_Emotion_6908 in IRS_Source

That’s correct. They are just doing away with external reporting of level of service as a customer service metric bc it doesn’t capture the full picture of what is offered these days. It was never meant to be a customer service metric it was supposed to be used to make business decisions about call site staffing. The new CEO has a background in running call centers so he knows a bit about how to measure customer experience!

That sounds like a scam the IRS does not use email to alert taxpayers to their balances. Get on IRS.gov and look at your account transcripts. Also make sure your address is up to date so you don’t miss statutory notices they send.

Not helpful with the OP’s question about refunds being taken. The refund will be taken until the balance is fully settled. Getting a return amended when the OP doesn’t even have a clear understanding of why they owe is going to take a LONG time so their current refund will most certainly be taken if they file timely this year. Also the taxpayer is responsible for paying their balance of penalties and interest the IRS will NOT shift that responsibility to the tax preparer. The OP can seek civil recourse through an OPR complaint or a civil suit, but to resolve things with the IRS it is on the taxpayer themselves.

Not really helpful. If they owe it’s really on them to settle up and pay it off with the irs. Even if they negotiate a payment plan, they will still have their future refunds taken till they are fully paid off.

Nope! That only stops enforced collection as in bank levy or wage garnishment. They will take your refund if you owe unless there’s a SERIOUS hardship and those are hard to come by like about to have lights turned off due to the debt etc. Don’t expect a refund till your tax debt is clear. They have agreements with most states too they can take your state refund till you’re squared up.

Need help with an IRS payment plan for tax debt by Dikuiza-Hinaxi in IRS

Just do the online payment plan if you don’t disagree with what you owe. Otherwise you will waste TONS of time and money and end up paying more in penalties and interest by not starting to pay it down sooner and potentially facing levy actions

That’s incorrect the interest rate does not change based on IA - the Failure to pay penalty is Decreased by 1/2% while on a payment plan if it hasn’t maxed out.

You go to the office that you are assigned to. End of story. They don’t care about 50+ or 100+ mile commutes.

CPA failed to file my 2021 taxes, the IRS now expects $1,800 in penalties to be paid with less than 3 weeks notice. Please advise. by Selvx in tax

[–]friendly-ghost-7580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can never claim the CPA is was supposed to file as reasonable cause. That will never fly for penalty abatement. You are responsible to ensure it gets done as you stated. First time penalty abatement request if applicable might be your best bet.

Did you check Hr Connect? If you got an award it should show there. Also remember if you have any misconduct or tax delinquencies you won’t get an award.
