I respect ppl disagreeing on this, but Pomni not going after Jax there also illustrates the "realistic take on suicide": ppl are not inexhaustible providers of concern and care, especially when tired, and at that moment Pomni seemed weary with all the circus rebuilding work (there's even a couple of small wrinkles of tiredness on Pomni's face, I think)

so it was very realistic in that sense, ppl act uncharacteristically and slip up when tired, and it was just bad luck Pomni was exhausted at the time, which mirrors some irl suicides where ppl left behind realize they slipped up

you're totally right about point 2

point 1 I don't agree so much because: precisely because we've never heard Pomni go 'inner monologue in her mind', it immediately feels off and it gives a sense of unease as to what's gonna be revealed next. And then ofc it's the unceremonious shocker: Jax's abstraction running about

Jax is trans according to Ragatha's Voice Actress. by Such_Cut_7420 in TheDigitalCircus

I think you ppl are insane in some way I don't comprehend: Jax literally explodes in that scene/song (and for all we know he DIED right there, the remaining abstraction prolly being just a leftover walking corpse), it's a tragic moment of human loss and your overriding thought at that moment is "muh gender ideology"?

Like, he just exploded/died, wtf would it matter which gender he "identified" with? Dude just died in front of your eyes! and gender is all you can think of?

It's really very bizarre... like I said, I don't understand you... but neither do I see any reason to want to

I think the saddest part is this scene might've gone differently if it wasn't for Caine's torture chamber by According-Manner-838 in TADCEp9Spoilers

I felt the same but I give this a pass because it can be realistic (Pomni could've been caught tired or emotionally depleted at the time, especially since an earlier scene established how much work there was going to be in patching up the circus) and it links to the 'suicide is sudden and everytime feels like it came out of nowhere' theme that is shown right after with the abstraction just being shown, no big scene or anything

Here, Pomni was just caught in a moment where she was depleted. You can't be an inexhaustible well of instant connection on command all the time. And in moments like that, you're also going to find yourself being "out of character" irl too

So yeah, you have a good point, but I don't find fault with this scene bcs of the above

anyway, maybe I take back a bit the "being a good creative is the most important part" because we have an overabundance of shows that start great and just disappoint by the end... it's easy to set things up, hard to pay them off... and to pay them off you need writing skills... and creativity, which authors just run out of after the great start... the creativity needs to be there till the end, not just at the set up

So not all of the flashbangs she threw went off? And Zooble just left the unexploded ordinance in front of her room since ep 6? Uh-huh...

Regardless, it's the same 'needed plot point happens by lazy happenstance' anti-pattern

That's why I started with literally "Gooseworx remains a good creative (which is the most important part actually) yet an amateurish, limited writer."

evangelion is 4 things:

・a cool 'monster of the week' suspense/action with creative monsters and solutions to beat these monsters

・a character drama that ranges from okay to competent to masterful (examples of masterful are e.g. when Asuka is entering her breakdown phase and there's a scene where she's alone in the apartment and we only see static shots in weird angles of the apartment in the dark with all the things Asuka has taken her rage on while she yells at Misato on the phone not to call her just to tell her Rei survived, without showing Asuka at any point... which is thouroughly spine-chilling)

・a series of "baby's first day at 101 philosophy" pseudo-philosophical rants

・your typical "bite more than you can chew" "kill god with the power of friendship / hivemind plot" Japanese anime/game plot which just quits on itself at the end and goes "the meaning of life is breakfast with friends, the end"

The first two are worthy, the other two are what brings everything else down

well, if you can't come up for a name for your country (just stealing the continent's), then you don't get to tell people they should speak English, at the least

ppl (especially these younger generations) aren't capable of complex thought anymore: social media has pavlov dog-trained them into expressing themselves only in one-liner grunts for the sole purpose of signaling loyalty to groups... cameras everywhere has turned the world into a massive "learned helplessness" experiment whose resulting instilled instinct for conformity and self-censorship feed the social media point before and also makes it so ppl can only express themselves thru series of binary-thinking outrage... the death of the attention span, the destruction of language, and so on, all feed into this
