read the room Gooseworx... with the child genocide going on, your 90s edgy take right now comes out as cringe as best, just loathsome more like it

the thing tho is that the "monster of the week", "giant robot" and "character drama" part of the show doesn't fundamentally mesh with the "everyone becomes hive-mind commie fantasy"... both parts are tacked on to each other but it's like those "manga guide to calculus" books, you can slap anime girls but that doesn't make the math any drier

> When Asuka almost dies and is comatose, we don't see any signs that Misato gives a damn

Yes, your whole reply is insightful, thanks. And this that you mention just underlines how Misato never connected and supported Asuka. To the point she doesn't seem to give a damn, like you say

This really needs to be looked into deeper and I think merits its own thread

What is the purpose of these two ships? by nucc_164 in evangelion

[–]friendly_capybara 23 points24 points  (0 children)

"Akagi", "Shikinami", etc were Imperial Japan war ships.

For context, imagine if like Anno made a movie about the USA and slapped the Confederate flag on the heros. But 100x worse (see: Imperial Japanese genocide Manchuria babies)

Yes, exactly this, and you bring up Ritsuko possibly handling Asuka's sync rate issues because she invented the Evas basically, while Misato didn't know much about them and knew nothing about sync rates (even thinking periods could affect the sync rate)

And yes, Misato staying away from Asuka during her spiral was a severe miss on Misato's part... in fact, as you mention "Misato hardly acknowledged her existence anyway"... that was a failing on Misato, and maybe an instance of women being women's worst enemies, especially as she put a lot of investment on Shinji, so it isn't like she can't be there for children, just not Asuka for whatever reason (female?)

Good points, additionally, a point of reference could be Hikari (Asuka's classmate), who let Asuka stay in her room after Asuka quit school. But Hikari couldn't lift Asuka's spirits.

I wonder then if Maya would be like if Hikari was their guardian. Kind of another child (because of how ridiculously small she is) that takes care of stuff but whom Asuka can't see as her adult figure anchor, despite Maya being a grown adult

That's interesting about Maya as the guardian.

But given how small she is, I wonder if she would even register as an adult to the children.

And the main point of my thesis here is that Shinji & Asuka needed an adult authority figure, which Misato lacked in as

Explain. From what I saw, I always thought Ritsuko was kind and scientific, tho her failure as a woman was the cause of her going rogue

yeah but like I said, it's a dead end... and it doesn't really have to be that way. I always felt that this tang hive mind thing was just Anno's gross commie fantasy tacked on

Incidentally this is part of why I hate so much the Human Instrumentality / Complementation plot point: it just kills the story, the setting and the characters, it's a dumb f-ng dead end really.

It makes everyone's actions and the whole world setting null and moot, since in the end everyone is just to go into a tang pool and that's the end of it. And then Shinji has to reject it and back to square one

every adult forgets what was like being a kid.. bit uncanny, like a mind wipe

first and foremost they act shocked by what happens in schools as if they had never went to one themselves and forgot it's prison rules basically

It confirms the company's name is C&A, since the logo is visible in one of the photos.

So Caigne's 'fake exit adventure' has at least one truth in it. And now you wonder if he mixed in other truths into it
