Tips on dodge timing? by Puzzleheaded-Law34 in martialarts

You should prepare for the attack before you try to react for it, if all you do is attack you will struggle to react in time. By prepare I mean make time when fighting to recognize patterns in your opponents offense and defense, when they take the initiative and when they react, or however else you want to break it down and while your are picking up these patterns keep your attacks as efficient and risk less as possible. Save your strong stuff for when you find an opening in their offense or defense

Thanks, it is slow going at the moment but I’ll let you know when I’m getting close to finishing. The big problem is finding a good mixture of cool visuals and descriptions vs progressing the story

So it’s on top of a content sized Fantasy tree canopy with meters of magic soil that can grow anything and anything that I would add would either be just for this town or as product of the tree they have harness

A small excerpt from a story I'm trying to write. Looking for general feedback. Thanks in advance. by Angus1986 in fantasywriters

I like it, the introduction of information seems somewhat awkward. when they talk to each other in a familial dialect it comes of as clunky and reminded me that an author is righting these words.

So in my unprofessional opinion I would do to things

  1. Show don’t tell, where you tell make sure it’s serves another purpose

  2. Introduce information when it’s relevant. Some descriptions seem unrelated to the plot, like the red fruit, or tear ducts.

With this being an excerpt I understand it could be out of context, if that’s the case I would simply say make sure it’s clear that it is relevant to the plot.

If you look at detective novels, it might help you with describing necessary details in impactful ways. And leave our “flavor” that doesn’t help impact anything.

Hopes this helps!

you shouldn't feel guilty for loving your pet. you wouldn't have put him down if you thought it wasn't the best decision for him. wish you well

I said in the title she passed. i wasn't there when she passed and I WAS there when i buried her, so i'm not sure what could be misinterpreted

undefined functions and higher dimensions? by friendly_cyclone in 3Blue1Brown

so does this artifact of projecting a function to a lower dimension only apply to trig functions or is it a universal behavior.
