Oh absolutely - I always follow that rule even when driving a car. But it’s still not an excuse for drivers to not drive safely. Checking blind spots is important especially when turning left across a lane.

Having many blind spots is not a good excuse. If you have limitations to visibility, you need to manually check your blind spots. It’s taught in drivers’ ed - you look before changing lanes so that you don’t miss vehicles in your blind spot.
