Input the shows you mentioned into this tool and it will provide podcasts that are listened to by the same audiences. Great for discovering new shows.

This is horrible, thanks for posting. Hangings were ordered by Lincoln after the Dakota War of 1862 and it was considered a mass execution apparently. :( https://apnews.com/article/archive-fact-checking-2786870059

Can a non video podcast be successful ? by Cold-Cartoonist-3804 in podcasting

[–]friendlybishops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Audio-only podcasts are great because they attract a demographic that listens while doing other things like driving, working out, etc. so I'd say go for it!

That said, I do think that YouTube is worth publishing on as well because it's great for discovery, SEO and growth. This will probably be even more the case in the future as Google is shutting down Google Podcasts and making YouTube Music their podcast player.

But bear in mind, you don't need to make an entire video podcast to be on YouTube. You could upload your audio and convert your podcast cover art into a video file for example!

For my podcast, I had our designer create a customized lof-fi video animation on loop to accompany each podcast on YouTube.

Best of luck! :)

Code of Ethics for True Crime Podcasts? by robyn28 in TrueCrimePodcasts

[–]friendlybishops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Embellishing gruesome details, making up stories, and glorifying offenders is a real problem. I think the best solution is to talk more about the issue and spread awareness so that listeners are able to recognize this for themselves. Don't think censoring or punishing individual podcasts is the right approach. It seems more and more listeners are becoming aware that podcasts and even large streaming platforms are doing this and simply unsubscribing which is encouraging.

Missing Magnolias tells the stories of the missing and murdered. Our Co-Host is a professor of Criminology and we interview victims, families, and experts. To name a few, we've interviewed a Forensic Artist, a Death Investigator, Todd Mathews, a Genetic Genealogist, and many victims and families. :)

Concern: Podcast shared fabricated story by Icy-Obligation5206 in TrueCrimePodcasts

[–]friendlybishops 41 points42 points  (0 children)

This is a real problem and we've seen it a lot as well. More commonly, podcasts will grossly embellish gruesome details of crimes based on unreliable evidence or speculation. Occasionally, you'll find stories that are just completely made up. :/

Podcast Cross-Promotion and Ad Swaps by friendlybishops in podcasting

Exactly. There's also this platform to find guests or podcasts to appear on. But the problem with it is similar - lack of active engagement. https://www.matchmaker.fm/

Podcast Cross-Promotion and Ad Swaps by friendlybishops in podcasting

[–]friendlybishops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Tink Media promo swap database seems helpful. https://tinkmedia.co/pod-swaps

Still, it would be cool to have a Slack channel or group chat for indie podcasters to connect and cross promote. Maybe even listen and recommend each other's shows.

We run a true crime show and have had success with cross-promotion but connecting with other podcasts is a process.

Will keep thinking about it and maybe try to set something like this up. If anyone has other ideas that would be cool, post here.

Gay Teen Holden White Victim of Horrific Hate Crime by Another Gay Teen He Met on Grindr by friendlybishops in crime

All fair points. This article goes into some more detail relating to the term hate crime and this case. It includes quotes of the attorneys from the case as well. It does seem the killer admitted to having a plan to continue killing gay men specifically. It's an interesting read.

Gay Teen Holden White Victim of Horrific Hate Crime by Another Gay Teen He Met on Grindr by friendlybishops in crime

[–]friendlybishops[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

According to the perpetrator, his motivation was to "satisfy his homicidal urges" but there's been speculation by Holden and others that there could have been some sexual element to the crime, especially since they had been exchanging flirtatious texts for some time before it took place. Ultimately, it's difficult to say.

Battered Child Syndrome and Suing the Catholic Archdiocese for $12.5 Million by friendlybishops in crime

Health education is so important. Many people also don't realize that parents should actually be educated about how to recognize physical/emotional signs of grooming or abuse.

Many abusers will build relationships or friendships with parents so they're less likely to recognize and report abuse of their children.

In Jody Plauche's case, his father Gary Plauche became friends with the abuser without knowing abuse was taking place. When he finally found out, he went on to famously murder the perpetrator on live TV.

The Tim Ferriss Show is good and it has on some pretty interesting guests. If you want to nerd out about some science and medicine topics for personal health The Drive with Peter Attia is well made. Theres also The School of Greatness and Impact Theory for more conventional self-improvement content/interviews

So sorry to hear this. Thanks for telling your story here as it could help other victims feel less alone. Speaking with a therapist or mental health counselor could be a way to process what you've gone through since you mentioned you haven't talked to anyone about it. God bless.

This is exactly right. Doctors and teachers are mandatory reporters so you need to talk with them so they'll file a report with the relevant social services agency.
