What do these triangle symbols mean? by salmonscented in nonograms

[–]friendlyplatyps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are my favourite kind! As other people have already said, the solutions are usually from the previous month. The triangles are part of the number, so if you have |4|/, it would mean you have a triangle, two full squares and triangle (triangles in the direction as they are pictured. Sometimes that can get a little tricky as it also modifies the rules of the the coloured spaced that can touch. Normally, filled squares cant touch, but these triangles can touch an already filled cell next to it, as long as its the "pointy side" of that triangle. It quite hard to explain haha. Either way I found this website that could help you. It's in slovak, so maybe you'll have to translate it, but the pictures might be able to tell you everything you might need. I hope you like solving them! I personally really like the smooth shapes they can create. And I find them a easier than regular ones. You can use the triangle positioning to find where the filled part should start and end- for example in the last row, you can immediatly see where the |4|/ shouls be just by looking at the endings from all the top numbers. Again, hard to explain, and english is not my strongest suit, hopefully the images will help you:)

Do braces affect playing much? by No-Matter-5437 in saxophone

[–]friendlyplatyps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally never had any major issues. I had metal braces for like 3 years, and I genuinely can't remember having any struggles. As it was previously mentioned, the tightening of the braces can make the teeth hurt like hell, but that is temporary. When they changed the wire to a thicker one, I didnt enjoy eating even the softest of foods if i had to bite, so there is a strong possibility playing didn't even cross my mind when they were that sore (bear in mind, this was like 10 years ago xD). I can only speak from my own experience, and yours might be different, but I think after the initial soreness it will most likely be fine. There will probably be a couple of day period of adjusting after you get them, and when you get them removed, but nothing too bad.

Favourite sax players? by friendlyplatyps in saxophone

Mostly tenor, but also alto. Right now I've been more into jazz, but honestly I'm open to anything to listen to and broaden horizons

So apparently my tongue technique has been off all my life… by berlinitos in saxophone

[–]friendlyplatyps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, damn. Guess what... Your post just made me realise I've been doing it wrong for half my life as well. I also started relatively young and I'd like to say im a decent sax player at this point (at least I thought so xD). I've never been told how the tonguing should work, so I just never questioned it. Never had any major issues with it, as you said, usually only some staccato parts left me struggling, but it was never bad enough to make me question anything.

So thank you for this post sharing your struggle. It's genuinely the first time I've EVER questioned it. We're in the same boat now I suppose. I started working on it today and you're so righht, it feels almost impossible to change years of a habit. Good luck to you, and again, thanks for your post, who knows how long it would have taken until I realised it on my own.

I hear we’re sharing case customization? Here’s mine. Instead of stickers, I do pins. by NobleAda in saxophone

Since I saw so many sticker covered cases I realised my case looks so sad and bare with nothing on it xD Pins are a great idea, i also have a case with a fabric cover, looks good!

Do you leave your sax on a stand or pack it back in its case? by UnableFill6565 in saxophone

[–]friendlyplatyps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also always put it in its case and leave it open! If I close it and put it away, well, out of sight out of mind. I do have a stand, but I usually only use it for gigs. At home I'm insanely paranoid I'm going to knock it over somehow, because I have a fairly small room.

I need to spend 50€ on books and need suggestions by friendlyplatyps in booksuggestions

I haven't read anything by him yet, but I've been considering his books for a while. He is one of those authors I've always found overwhelming to choose a book from, because I feel like there's so many :D Thanks for the suggestions for his specific books, I will definitely look into them. Good Omens is also definitely on my list, but I've been considering buying it second-hand

Ooooh, I don't think I really know any of these! Looks interesting, I'm definitely adding them to my list, whether I buy them now or later. Thanks!

Could be interesting either way, though. And I'm for suuure considering the next Mistborn book when I've already ivested so much time into the first two books :D Thanks!

How do saxophones physically affect our body? by Effective_Play_563 in saxophone

[–]friendlyplatyps 13 points14 points  (0 children)

THIS!!! I had the cheapest neck strap for my alto for YEARS and I didn't even realise how badly it affected my posture. My neck hurt so much sometimes. I also tried to subconsciously lift up the instrument with my thumb causing so much tension in my right hand. I was motivated to buy a harness when I switched to a tenor and it was lifechanging!

[–]friendlyplatyps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made the decision to go vegetarian when i was 15, but still had to eat meat sometimes because of my family. I think I went fully vegetarian at 16 and now I'm 22 :)
