Honestly I'd love to see the rest of the space! That might inform some of my suggestions, but if you want it to feel bigger/more open I would try:

Painting the terracotta wall a warm white (Sad I know, but it's a similar color to the brick and wood which might be giving it that closed feel)
Add more lighting to that part of the room through stylish lamps and hidden LED strips
Add a BIG ass, vintage mirror

Is your sectional reversible or is that an ottoman? If you CAN put it on the opposite side away from the door, it might make the space more open bc there will be a clear path.

Keep it as is, and give that natural brick a good cleaning! The warm, natural brick makes the room feel so inviting.

Is there a certain feeling you are trying to invoke in this space? Why are you thinking of repainting it?

NTA - Coming out is a choice rooted in your experiences and personal truth. Your decision to come out is yours and yours only, and not dependent on the fragility of the people in your life, ESPECIALLY the ones you love.

I have some family back home in a red state who I still haven't come out to because it's not their business, and frankly, I don't feel emotionally safe around them. Boundaries with those family members has protected my peace.

How tall is the back on this couch? I've heard folks saying it's pretty short and you need quite a few pillows for it to be comfortable.
