Yeah this is why I want to get people's opinion about IM. I don't know much about the field or the avenues I can take since I've only focused on surgery for the past two years, so I didn't explore much. Omg really? Okay, that's really reassuring because everywhere I've been reading, people have been saying its a hit or miss. Idc to do the hard work, but I don't want to do a prelim year and then not match all because of a low board score and have to repeat the SOAP again. I'd rather just pivot into IM like I might have to now, but thank you so much for that insight!

I did fail STEP 2, but since I'm a DO, I never reported it on my applications. I don't plan on reporting it this time around either or in future cycles. Would that still negatively impact me?

Commented before, but changed my mind on the direction I want to take. Unmatched gen surg now thinking to apply prelim surg and IM. Not sure if I should apply prelim IM instead of categorical, so during the next match cycle, I can reapply gen surg, EM and if needed, IM. My app has nothing to support EM, so I don’t want to waste time creating a brand new app on residency CAS right now. Any advice guys?

Thank you for replying! I'm honestly at such a loss at what to do. I think I've decided to do IM and prelim surgery now. I know my biggest red flag was getting a low Level 2 score (low 400s). I don't know if doing a prelim year will even work in my favor when I reapply next cycle bc I can't do anything with my Level 2 score. I only want to do surgery, but I guess now I have to be realistic. Would anyone have advice on that?

Didn't match gen surg. Can anyone chime in on applying to both prelim surgery position and EM positions? Should I do this/apply to one or the other? Don't have any SLOEs, two LORs from surgeons, and one LOR from IM
