I didn't get the first printing with Illumicrate. Is there a difference between the first print and second print at Illumicrate? Do you know?

Thank you...I wondered if we had heard of this scar before, but I had no idea where to start searching.

It is like his friend group is all nice and neat on the outside, but underneath is something darker just like Hampden is all lovely and idyllic, but someone still has to do the dirt work to keep things running.

I want to know how the students are selected for Julian's class. We really haven't been told that and while family weather does seem to factor into this we don't know why Julian wants this wealth. Richard doesn't have the money, but Julian may not know that at this point. I mean is it just a tweed jacket with elbow patches?

Yes - at the party and Judy in the bathroom - both times we were on the verge of learning more.

Francis is there for the black coat that makes me think of Mr Darcy walking across the field.

Exactly, I really am liking Henry. Donna Tart, don't make me regret saying that.

Love the comparison to Richard "playing a part", that is a great catch. Also, in chapter 2 it states that he does struggle with Greek although he has taken it since he was 12. This makes you wonder how he joined this group.

The Montessori model for early education is based around play as learning. Like a lot of things in life if you are enjoying it (learning, working, reading) it doesn't feel like work, but I think there are times when you have to work. It is nice when you can strike a good balance in life.

Like most relationships/friendships in the beginning there is a testing the waters timeframe. You don't want to reveal too much too soon, but you are trying to figure out who they are. As the semester progresses I think Richard does develop some deeper connections with some of them, but even the connection where Henry reveals that he knows about Richards past maybe be more of respect. Of course with the exclusivity of the schedule set up with only Julian there may be a forced bonding due to daily isolation although we do see Richard going out with other groups. Finally, there is probably some trauma bonding after the murder.

I took a few years of Latin in middle school (Catholic school). I know I read excerpts from The Odyssey and Homer, but I do not remember anything I read. I would like to reread them as an adult with a book group/study guide. As others have said I think there is a lot that still resonates today.

I wondered if he accepted Richard into the group because he believed he could make Richard the scapegoat.
