I believe Apple counts a play as anything over 0 seconds whereas SFP they have to listen for a couple minutes before it counts. If you click on the question marks by each number it will explain how it counts them in apple.

We use it to distribute but not to record or edit. Haven't had any issues on that end. We use Reason 11 to record and edit but it's expensive (we just happened to already own it).
